Donna Delph (now deceased) and I drove the seven hours home from Dayton to Altoona for Thanksgiving day, 1988. But for sister Jojo’s wedding the following weekend, I doubt that Donna would have come in. She grumbled much about making the trip. Apparently, Altoona represented lots of bad memories for her because when she moved back to Dayton two years earlier, she said that she’d probably never return. To Donna, Dayton was home. But at least she made this one trip.
She smoked, the whole way from the Dayton end of of I-70, all the way to the Bedford exit from the PA turnpike. I said nothing. as it was her car. So she had the power. But I was none too pleased about all that nicotine, swirling around my head.
We made it though, with nary a disagreement.
