Dear Lynn: On ‘Created Equal’
Dear [Lynn],
Well, I meant ‘higher’ in the sense that humans are the only species that has the ability to meaningfully alter their environment. Humans, rather than being governed by instinct, can change their behavior. They can hunt a species to the brink of extinction, and then repopulate it again. But all species are necessary in our fragile ecosystem, regardless of how low they are on the food chain. So, in that sense, we are all equal. We’re all equal because we’re all necessary.
