Dear J: Your Poor Mouth

Dear   [J],

On your mouth: Do you feel comfortable taking ibuprofen? You’d have to take quite a hefty dose (1000 – 1500 mg) to make a dent in the pain you’re having. I did that just prior to the emergency root canal I had in 1998 and it seemed to make the pain manageable. There is also Tylenol with codeine. But you’d need to get a doctor to prescribe some for you. Finally, if you are in a lot of pain, you’d best make a quick decision on how you’re gong to treat it – either get the root canal or have the tooth pulled – and get it done immediately. The possible complications resulting from delaying treatment can be pretty bad. The ailing tooth can die and become gangrenous or otherwise toxic. So be careful, and act quickly.

Another question: How did you develop such an extreme sensitivity to antibiotics? Do you have lots of allergies? Did you take lots of them in your childhood?
