Tid Bits: 2000-06-15

Dear   [Lynn],

A big thunderstorm just rumbled through here, making all kinds of snapping, static noises on the radio here In the office. But it’s on the way out now, and things are brightening up and calming down once again.

Installed the Windows 98 upgrade last night. Took a good hour and fifteen minutes once I got my disk drive straightened out. A problem came up early on in the installation. Windows could not locate information on my hard drives while inspecting the computer hardware. So it just hung for several minutes and then said that setup could not continue. The instructions said to exit setup, run scandisk. and then rerun setup with the /IS option, to disable the drive check functionality in setup. I did that and all was well after that. The computer seems slightly faster today, but little else about the desktop has changed with the upgrade.

It turns out that the upgrade I bought last fall is the same CD ROM I received in the mail yesterday. So, I really didn’t need to order the service pack. Ah well, Christine is looking forward to the upgrade.

Ordered her new CD ROM drive. Had to settle for a 48X, because none of the higher speed ones are currently listed in the Windows Hardware Compatibility List, and I didn’t want to take a chance on the thing not working correctly after installing it.

Anyway, back to work. Talk to you later, babe.

Tom
