A Humid Evening

Monday, July 31st, 2000

Dear   [Lynn],

Your C+R rating is not in jeopardy.

Just returned from the evening constitutional. Very humid. Almost 100%, and quite foggy. But the crickets and katydids are quite loud now, especially along that river at the cemetery. Yes, summer is getting on.

What dark green vegetable did you go with? Broccoli, spinach?? Romaine lettuce is pretty dark too. Lots of chlorophyll.

Just had 5 smoked almonds. That should quell any hunger pangs for the remaining time I will be awake tonight. :-)

Well, sleep tight. Sending thoughts of warm, caressing hands to you, taking all that weariness and pain from your back. Talk to you tomorrow.

Tid Bits: 2000-07-31

Monday, July 31st, 2000

Dear   [Lynn],

Hey there.

Speaking of modems, I got the one in the PII PC going today. Had to call Micron Tech Support to do it. But they were most helpful and taught me a few more worthwhile lessons about Windows. Also, I located usable driver files for this modem last night. I’m writing to you on it right now. Unfortunately, it only does the X2 version of 56K, not the industry standard V.90 56K. And since the work modems are V.90, this modem will not talk to them at 56000 BPS. So I have to settle for 33.6. This modem is obsolete. :-)

Will look into downloading files for your modem and putting them on disks, so when I get there, we can install the correct drivers on the Cheetah.

Nice LONG talk last night. Almost like we were laying together in person, instead of us each laying alone in our respective separate beds. :-) Nice.

Last plant run? Wow, fall is a coming ! ! ! Bur really though, summer isn’t even half over yet. So there’s still much warmth to go.

Don’t forget the printer!!! *grin*

Later.

401K

Wednesday, July 26th, 2000

Dear   [Lynn],

Oh, forgot to tell you. Just got notice today that [the company] is raising the maximum contribution percentage from 14 to 20%. I’m currently at 14% of my income being diverted to my 401K account. This is wonderful. I’m going to have the contributions increased this week.

More later.

August Maine Trip

Wednesday, July 26th, 2000

Dear   [Lynn],

Glad to hear that you’ve hit bottom with that cold and are on your way back up. :-)

Made the limo reservations this afternoon for August 11th. I hope to meet you at the wharf between 3:40 and 4:10 PM. If I’m late, I guess we’ll be staying in Rockland.

My credibility has ALWAYS been high. It was only in your LIMITED vision that it fell. *really duck this time*

Busy day. But it’s going well.

Catch you tonight.

Hi Tad: 2000-07-25

Tuesday, July 25th, 2000

Dear   [Tad],

How are ya? Yes, your email made it to me, and I was quite pleasantly surprised to get it.

Thanks for sending the article. It’s always nice to hear about my classmates, especially you, as you are featured in this newsletter. Terrific. Great job. And of course, keep it up. :-)

Here’s a bit of news from this end. Well, I moved to Altoona from Philly in January. Why? I believe I told you about the attack I suffered while living in Philly last fall. It really shook me up, and I was not comfortable walking on the streets there after it happened. In addition, I had some extremely noisy neighbors living beneath me, which made my apartment there unbearable. So, I had to leave. The landlord has threatened to sue me for breaking my lease and vacating the apartment almost 7 months early. But I told them to go ahead and that I’m eager to have the case heard. They refused to help me stop the noise for almost 4 months, and so were denying me my right to have a peaceful residence. My position is that THEY broke the lease, not me. So, we’ll have to see what happens. But my lawyer says that I’ve got a rock-solid case, which he’s 95 percent certain I will win if it goes to court.

However, I very much miss Philly and the independence I enjoyed there with their extensive bus and train system. So, I am contemplating a move back, perhaps later this fall or next spring. Needless to say I will NOT be living anywhere near where I was before. This time, I’m looking to move to lower Bucks county. It’s outside of Philly by a few miles, but still has most of the city conveniences, WITHOUT the big tax bill.

How’s [your] family? Did you tell your mother that I would like to massage her feet sometime? *smile* I’d even make a trip to Johnstown to do that.

Well   [Tad], I hope you are well. Unfortunately, I will probably not be able to make the alumni weekend this year. It turns out that we have a software release at [work] on Sunday morning, August 6th, and right now, no one else can cover for me. However, if I can find a willing volunteer, I’ll try and make it. Do you know how I would sign up to come? Perhaps [through] Joe?

Say hi to our teachers for me. Give them my best.

Anyway, gotta run. Take care, thanks for writing, and do write again very soon.

Regards.

Tom

Tid Bits: 2000-07-25

Tuesday, July 25th, 2000

Good morning [Lynn].

Getting ready to take my walk for the day. Hope your cold has let up a little today, and you’re feeling better. Pesky things!!

All is still quiet here. Mom and Curt probably won’t be up for another couple hours.

Just handed this week’s software over to the testers. Microsoft, here I come. :-)

And, I’m contemplating another letter to the manager about the promotion deal.

Have a productive day on the mainland. As often as you go over, you could start your own bus service. :-)

Anyway, take care, and will chat with you later.

The Quiet Cheetah

Sunday, July 23rd, 2000

Dear   [Lynn],

Yes, it does purr a bit as it is initializing. But it’s surprisingly quiet – not even as loud as Tabbo. Really surprising since the disks inside are rotating at over 10000 revolutions per minute (RPM). The only remaining problem is how to hook up the drive-busy light that is on this hard drive enclosure I bought. It seems that the Cheetah doesn’t have any places to hook up an external busy light, that will flicker when the drive is accessed. Will have to call Seagate about that.

I like that work arrangement about me dong the confusers and you doing the outside stuff. You won’t mind if I help you out there occasionally? :-)

Talk to you later, babe.

Cheetah Drive Adjustments

Sunday, July 23rd, 2000

Dear   [Lynn],

Looks like all the settling-in adjustments are made. All the work software seems to run fine from the Cheetah now. Was a bit worried this afternoon, as I could not open attachment files in Outlook email. That was a head-scratcher and I now have a balled spot. But they work now. I had an incorrect path in my autoexec.bat file. I’ll run this drive during work hours this week, to really give it a work-out and to flush out any still-existing problems. Then, I’ll try plugging it into PC #2.

Hope your mowing and watering and planting today went well.

Chat with you tonight.

Now Booting from Cheetah Drive

Saturday, July 22nd, 2000

Dear   [Lynn],

Hey there. Congratulations to the both of you. Be sure and treat [your daughter] to a sweet reward – like a hot fudge sundae? :-)

I’m now booting from the Cheetah drive. A few minor settling in adjustments. But things are definitely faster. Now, once I fix the last few remaining bugs, I’m going to plug the Cheetah into test PC #2, the Pentium 2 333 MHz machine (to the right of the west wall desk in the office). I hope to see how difficult it will be to boot from the drive, on a PC with a different hardware layout than the one the HD was created on. This is exciting.

More later.

Lynn’s Admirer

Friday, July 21st, 2000

Dear   [Lynn],

Ha ha. He’ll never stop trying. I might get jealous. :-) Well, enjoy that raining shellfish. Hope you have some come August 11th. *grin*

Later babe.
