Installed a New 16x CD RW Drive

Dear   [Lynn],

Well, Mom and two sisters, one friend, and about 10 kids are on their way to the beach at Cape Mae, New Jersey. About 7 hours from here. Boy is it quiet.

I just replaced the old 6x CD-R drive with a 16x CD-RW drive. Now, I can make copies of my CD-based software for backup purposes, and have a set to carry around with me to all these places like Maine. :-)

Also, once I got the new CD-RW drive installed, the computer started locking up when playing audio CDs for a long time. I had seen this problem before and had concluded then, that it was caused by the BusLogic FlashPoint SCSI card in that 1996 vintage computer. And I had ordered a replacement last year (the Adaptec 2940AU), but never got a chance to install it. So, did that today. Seems to have corrected the lockups. But I’ll burn it in all afternoon to be sure. Don’t want lockups to happen when recording a CD, as this can ruin the new CD, particularly if you’re recording a write-once CD.

Well, gotta go. Catch you a bit later.

Tom
