Home Improvement Update
Dear BB,
Speaking of carpentry, I’ve been doing a bit of remodeling work on the second floor here at Mom’s. Added electric baseboard heat a week or two ago and a 220V, 30-Amp circuit to support them, eight new electrical outlets divided up into two new 20-amp branch circuits, and later this week, there’s a load of insulation coming (the foam board type), so that the new electric heaters up there don’t cost too much to run. Hoping to have that installation done within two weeks after the insulation is delivered. Then, in a month or so, the plan is to install air conditioners in both rooms upstairs, and run category 5 network cable, for high speed internet access, again, to both rooms. Oh, and there will be phone lines too. Home maintenance and improvement are lots of fun. And finally, the doors up there are very thin and hollow core, and not very good at keeping out noises. So I’d like to replace them with solid core doors. This project scares me a bit because I’ve never chiseled a new door for the hinges. And these are not pre hung since there are already jams in place. I just don’t want to ruin the doors. So I’m going to get a few old pieces of wood and practice chiseling a few times before actually cutting the doors. They’re about $50 apiece.
