Planning the Pavilion

Monday, April 15th, 2002

Dear sister Diane,

Thanks much. I’ll give him [the contractor who's going to build the pavilion] a call.

Oh yes, vacation is great so far. Spent the morning filing and redding up the office. Doing taxes this afternoon. Then, will resume working on the insulation tonight.

Hope you’re enjoying work (as opposed to vacation). :)

Talk to you later,
Tom Hesley

Insulation Project: 2002-04-05

Friday, April 5th, 2002

Dear [LG],

All is well here. Still working on remodeling the 2nd floor. Installing the insulation is slow, because many pieces have to be individually measured and cut. Lots of irregular shapes and sizes. But we’re progressing nicely. Hope to have it finished by the time the air conditioning season arrives.

Sorry I missed you in my last visit to Philly. But I’ll be back in June for the Overbrook alumni weekend.

Take care, and hope to see you then.

More Overbrook Dance

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2002

Dear [Vanna],

Yes, it seemed that most of the people in attendance at the spring dance were in their 40s and 50s, with a few in their 60s and 70s. But yes, the bulk of the crowd graduated in the mid to late 1960s. Perhaps a bit old for me. But I hung out with a 47-year old lady named Daisy and we seemed to be close enough in age to give us enough in common. That helped keep the conversation going.

Thoughts on Cancer

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2002

Dear [Vanna],

Yes, cancer seems to be getting more and more of us these days. Maybe it’s because we’re living so much longer than in previous generations. I don’t know. But that’s what killed my father in 1997, and he was only 61. Until they find a cure, we’ll just have to take good care of ourselves — getting enough sleep, eating the proper foods, avoiding stress as much as possible, and finding ways to stay happy and excited about life.

Overbrook Dance Wrapup

Monday, April 1st, 2002

Dear [Vanna],

Hello there.

Yes, I did attend the spring dance. Was wonderful. Somewhere between thirty and forty people attended. I thought more would come but perhaps they’re saving their pennies for the June weekend, which I’ll be attending as well.

On the WPSBC front, I heard from [KC] the other day. She’s doing well but didn’t have anything new to report from there.

We had a nice Easter. All the family gather at various times over the weekend. And we visited my sister who lives in State College on Saturday. I could have done without all the food. But I’ll lose the weight in the coming weeks – I hope. :)

Well, glad to hear from you again. Take care and write again soon.

Vacation Upcoming

Monday, April 1st, 2002

Dear   [Vanna],

All is well here. I’m just continuing to work on the house here, and have a two-week vacation scheduled to begin in mid April. I plan on getting most of the remodeling work finished during that time.
