Trademarking a Business Name

Dear   [Lynn],

Hey,

Do you have your business name, [...] trademarked, or registered elsewhere?

I’m laying the groundwork for my new business and I’m wondering if business names are typically trademarked. I know that products / services / technologies have their names trademarked, and so do business logos. This is all rather confusing. :-)
