I Have a Goiter
Dear sister Diane,
The blood work came back normal. The correct levels of thyroid hormone are present. And, it does not appear to be autoimmune related since there are no anti-thyroid antibodies in my blood.
[My physician] wants to see me again in 3 months to look at my neck [...]. In the meantime, I’m working on increasing my daily iodine intake to see if that shrinks the goiter. More deep-water fish and other ocean-based foods will be in my diet and I’ll start taking a multi vitamin with iodine in it.
The tricky part of this is that too little iodine can cause goiters, and so can too much iodine. So, for the first experiment, I’m addressing the condition of too little iodine. If the goiter doesn’t subside, then I’ll try the too-much case and cut back on seafood and iodized salt. Anyway, thanks for asking.
Happy birthday by the way. Did you and [your husband] do anything special yesterday?
