My Goiter: 2003-02-26

Dear sister Diane,

Thanks for typing this in.

My thyroid hormone levels are normal according to the blood tests that [my physician] did at the beginning of February. I am not suffering any of the symptoms the article describes (dry skin, constipation, and so on). The only symptom I have is the swollen neck. And, he could not find any elevated levels of globular thyroid antibodies. These were non existent in my blood. However, he said that there are many different types of thyroid antibodies but that he only tested for the most commonly seen one.

I see the specialist in early March. Hopefully, he’ll run more tests for more antibodies and zero in on which one is making my thyroid gland so swollen. Perhaps it isn’t even thyroiditis at all. [My physician] didn’t want to put me on thyroid hormone unless recommended by the specialist.

We’ll just have to see how it goes. :)
