IE 6 On a Separate Disc
Wednesday, October 6th, 2004Dear [C],
While I wasn’t sure, I do remember when 98 was big, having to order a separate CD for IE 5. So I didn’t think it would be on the OS CD like it is in XP.

Dear [Ann],
Yea, Diane does indeed sound like a real pain, and a real disruptive force in your business of properly raising [your daughter]. Did Diane have a lawyer on Monday? If so, perhaps it’s good that she got turned down. Lawyers aren’t cheap. So if she’s out that money, perhaps she’ll leave you alone now.

Dear [C],
Well, if IE is on the Windows 98 installation CD, you’d probably have to install it by using the Add/Remove Components applet in Control Panel. But I don’t remember if it is on that CD or not.

[IE 6] Service pack 1 contains a complete copy of all the code required to run IE6. You can get that, at the following site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx
It is important that Mike not download Service Pack 2 of IE6, because that will only run correctly on XP.
By the way, if he can’t get the download to work, there are instructions on the site for ordering IE6 on CD ROM. He may have to do that. It will cost him around $5. Unfortunately, I don’t have this in my CD library.

I have Windows 98SE on an old computer here, and it has Outlook Express 6 on it. It seems to run fine. However, I haven’t used it in a long time. I’ll try and send you an email through it and see if I get any “missing DLL” errors.
I don’t know for sure if Outlook Express 6 will run on the first edition of 98, but I’m 99 percent sure it will indeed run on the 2nd edition. But let’s find out for sure. Stand by.
