Slower CD ROM Burn Rates
Dear [Mentat],
On CD burning at 2x as opposed to higher rates, the idea that lower rate burns last longer comes from the notion that the laser is focused for a longer period of time over each bit position, and so can “drill a deeper hole” which is less affected by light, aging, and other destructive forces. Also, friends report that the CDs they’ve burned at 40x develop skips and dead spots inexplicably after a few months. Don’t know for sure if slower burning helps, but it sounded good anyhow. I wasn’t in a hurry, so you got the slower rate [on your Supertramp CD], just in case there’s some truth to this. Â
