Chat Line Problems
Dear [C],
He’s been threatening [Mark] with legal action (I heard the message myself), and telling tall tales. Don’t know if you heard about the trouble he says he had at camp. But to recap: [Barney] said that on Lions Appreciation Day, when he was at camp with [Terra], that a counselor treated him badly. He claims that he complained to his Lions club, and that they forced the camp director to bring the offending counselor to his home and apologize. The whole thing sounded out of character for [the camp director] and most unprofessionally handled.
So this past Wednesday, I asked [her] about the affair and she assured me that it never happened. She didn’t even know who [Barney] was. So I confronted him with this last night, and he offered no explanation. When I told him I didn’t like being lied to, he abruptly hung up. He seemed quite upset that we caught him in the act.
Now I’m not sure if he lies intentionally or if he just can’t distinguish reality from fantasy. Whatever it is, it doesn’t matter, for he seems like trouble we don’t need on the chat line. Besides, I’m tired of hearing all his drama, especially now that much of it, in light of his blatant lying about [Mel], may not even be true. We can’t trust him to be straight with us right now, and so would do well to stay well clear of him.
Of course, you’re free to do what you want, but I won’t get on the chat line with him there, because I have better things to do than listen to his yarns of woe and gloom, particularly when he doesn’t take the necessary steps to better himself.
Well, if we don’t catch you tomorrow, some other time then.

Take care,
Tom
