Dear Emmy: 2005-11-19
Dear [Emmy],
Well, you may have to settle for part-time work at first to get your foot in the door of the working establishment. I did some part-time work when I first started out. However, this particular job at Sam’s sounds like it could present some difficult hardships for you. You made the right choice on that.
In our culture, people think that  fat  is normal. Don’t be sucked in by this. Sometimes, people will tell you that you need to gain weight to make you less attractive. It’s a way of boosting themselves in the pecking order – by pulling you down. Don’t listen to them. You are not anorexic. Anorexia involves a loss of appetite, which you do not seem to have, and your body weight is not low (another symptom of it).
Writing is gong well. I just began work on another email to [Mentat] this morning. 600 words so far.
Nope, I learned long ago not to struggle to change a lot for someone else. People need to like me as I am, or I let them be.
Yep, Jay is funny. I like how he meows when he sees my face. Often, he’ll sit on the floor at the bottom of the steps up to my bedroom. If I poke my head out the door and look down at him, he meows. But if I just put my hand out and wave at him, he stays quiet. From this, he apparently knows about eye contact. He seems to understand that a person’s center of consciousness is around the face.
Your leaving Sunday is okay by me.
What is a “ggain of salt?”
Later,
Tom
