Steelers Fight Song CD: 2006-01-31

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

Dear [C],

Yes, they have a new Steelers CD this year. Same song and music, but they changed the lyrics a little, to account for the roster changes this year. I’m hoping to get to K-Mart this week, so I’ll pick you up a copy.

All is well. Yes, I’ve been busy writing software for the DJ stuff — working on a beats-per-minute counter program now, and just finished an IFilter for the Indexing Service, that allows me to search for songs in my library based on the BPM. Then, there’s the upcoming Windows Vista release to contend with later this year. In order to get ready for that, I have to upgrade some of my hardware. It’s neat, but crazy.

Haven’t been on the chat line for a while. I’ve tried dialing in a few times but no one was around.

Well, I’ll let you know about the CD.

Talk to you soon,
Tom

Emmy’s Stomach Problems

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

Dear [Emmy],

That’s great news! Glad to hear that you’re well and that fixing the problem with your stomach may be no more complicated than adjusting your diet. That’s wonderful.

I’ll call you at 10:00.

Emmy’s Diet: 2006-01-11

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

Dear [Emmy],

I’ll get a good picture [of me] and mail it to you in the next couple days.

Keep up the good work on the diet. An important key to weight loss and then keeping it off once you lose it, is to learn to say no, even when others are pressuring you to say yes and eat things you know you shouldn’t.

Wrist Update: 2006-01-10

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

Dear [Emmy],

The wrist still aches, although it seems to be getting better very SLOWLY. It take take another year before it’s really back to normal. Well, I won’t be lifting any more weights; at least until the pain goes away. And even then, I’ll not do as many of the exercises I was doing before. I think I just overworked it because of doing too much.

Updating Emmy: 2006-01-10

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

Dear [Emmy],

Nope, didn’t lose anymore [weight]. I was still 167.5 as of this morning. More should drop off tomorrow because I haven’t eaten yet today, and yesterday, I had a steak salad and one bowl of “Drape Nuts.” I’ll eat as lightly today, perhaps having a bowl of veggie soup for supper and a few Clementines.

Did you listen to any more mysteries when you couldn’t sleep? They’re a great way to get educated on word usage, common cultural themes, and some of them even enact the classic literature. E.G. Marshall will tell you in each episode when it was made from a classic work.

The cold is a little better; but not much.

Yep. I saw Y ‘n R. Looks like they got Sheila.

No, I give people my full attention when talking on the phone. No music, news, radio, or other activity to be heard in the background, except for perhaps the whirr of a fan. I don’t like it when people appear to be divided between me and a media program when talking to them.

Well, I’ve just been reading a bit today. No other work because I still feel bad.

Talk to you tonight,
Tom

Updating Ann: 2006-01-09

Monday, January 9th, 2006

Dear [Ann],

I got your message the other day. However, I’ve been dreadfully sick with a nasty cold and can’t talk that well right now. I’ll call you once I’m better. Thanks for the holiday wishes.

Updating Emmy: 2006-01-09

Monday, January 9th, 2006

Dear [Emmy],

I’m fine. I lost four pounds last week. The weight this morning was 167.5.

Keep up the good diet work. Otherwise, I’ll get ahead of you.

The cold feels a little better today. Since it’s so warm out, I plan on taking down the Christmas lights outside this afternoon.

Do you want the picture in email or in regular mail?

“everything in it’s rightful place.” Don’t put an apostrophe on “its” in this case It is one of those weird [nouns] that does not get an apostrophe to denote possession. Use the apostrophe when contracting “it is” to “it’s” but not for ownership.

Your gift was meaningful. I enjoyed reading that Dr. Phil book.

I never received the camp picture from last year, though I did pay for one. I’ll have to ask [the director] about it.

Thanks for the supportive, encouraging words.

Talk to you tonight,
Tom

Dear [Tad],

Will do.

It’s be nice if we could get Cory to come to the alumni convention this summer.

Don’t know what ever became of Czar.

The Cold is Worse Again

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

Dear   [Emmy],

Well, the cold is back in full force today. I got chilled last night working in the basement. Perhaps that explains it. Oh well, perhaps by the end of next week, it will get better.

The service for my uncle turned out very nice. I got to throw a pinch of his ashes in the river. Everyone there did a pinch. My aunt said some prayers, and my cousin read some of uncle Jack’s favorite passages from the AA book (Jack was an alcoholic). Then, we went to his youngest son’s house [...] and spent the afternoon reminiscing. I had two sandwiches, 5 clementines, and a big spoon full of scalloped potatoes. I figured I could splurge a bit given how fast the weight is coming off.

Yes, let’s reach our weight goals by July. I’m well on the way. :-)

Today’s price on a 1GB flash memory card is $52.

I’ll call you in a little while.
