Gas Heaters Follow-Up #1

Well, we’re disappointed in these gas heaters. While they really took the chill off the first floors, and reduced how often the big furnace runs, they are NOT a perfect solution for lowering the gas bill. For one thing, they smell bad and so, give us headaches while they operate. Plus, they create condensation in the attic such that the rafters drip. They make it rain in there. And finally, they cost a thousand dollars for materials and professional installation. True, they might pay for themselves eventually by reducing our heat bills. But I’m not optimistic.

We’ved stopped using them until we learn how to solve these issues. I hope it’s not normal for them to smell. Perhaps this is because they’re so new, and we’re smelling the paint on them as they heat up. But if this keeps up, we’ll rip them out.
