Spring Peepers Appear

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

We heard the first peepers down along the river tonight. With only one peep every couple minutes,   [Emmy]   and I had to wait in the bathroom at the open window to catch the sound; it was too cold to hang outside for very long. Plus, they stop peeping when anyone gets too near. But weak as the peeps were, we still heard them; a sure sign that spring is about to spring. We typically hear this in mid March.

[Emmy]   never hears this at her place in Pittsburgh, and I think she said that this was the first time she’s ever heard the noise at all. Nonetheless, she shares my enthusiasm about spring almost being here. We’ve had such a cold winter, and I’ve spent so much time shut up here in the office that I’m actually eager to get out to the yard and fire up the lawn tractor and weed whacker.
