Weight Loss: 2009-03-19

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

I’m encouraged by my weight loss so far this year. I weighed in at 194 pounds on December 26th, 2008. Today, the scale said 178.5; a 15.5 pound drop. My feet hurt less when I go up and down the steps to my living quarters, and I find that I sleep much better when eating fewer calories. My blood pressure has fallen from 130 / 90 to 115 / 80, and my cholesterol has dropped from 280 last summer, to 205 last fall. I’m currently taking cholesterol-lowering medicine. But if the reading further improves, I want to stop that this spring.

I’m not forbidding too many food items; just limiting how much I eat. I typically have one meal a day at around 7:00 PM. This consists of a bowl of soup, a bowl of cereal, a can of sardines or clams, and a glass of V8 juice. Or, I might have a cup of chicken salad or a pork roast stew with lots of carrots and potatoes. If I get hungry, I’ll have a cheese stick or two, although usually, drinking green tea and fiber keeps those hunger pangs away. I generally hold my consumed calories count between 700 and 1000 per day.

I hope to reach 140 pounds by the end of this year. Wish me luck!   :-)

This Nasty Cold Continues

The first day, my throat felt painful and scratchy. The second day, that went away but I developed a headache, dizziness, and low energy. I spent almost all day in bed yesterday, nursing this congestion in my lungs. It’s painful to cough, and there was a fever yesterday as well that broke during the night. So far, it has not returned. Thus, the worst might be over now. I hope! I have a shopping trip scheduled for tomorrow that I can’t afford to miss. So I hope I feel good enough to go.
