Early Trip Home

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

We got up at 4:30 AM today. Oh, that was so hard, since we did not get to bed until 1:30 AM. We had planned on staying up all night. But just after 1:00, I began feeling so tired that those aspirations faded fast, replaced with daydreams of my wonderful Kings Down bed at home.

We didn’t use the air mattress because I was just too tired to set it up. Plus, blowing it up for a three-hour nap didn’t make much sense either. So   [Mentat]   slept in   [Emmy's]   bedroom on her single bed, and she and I took the floor in her living room. Surprisingly that was not too uncomfortable, for a concrete floor covered in outdoor style carpet that is.

Well, at the beckoning of that awful-sounding alarm clock, we rose, did the dishes, put everything away, and then sat around waiting for the cab which showed up promptly at 6:15  AM.

The short trip to the train station took 10 minutes, and once there, I almost lost my back pack; I’d left it on the side walk outside while guiding   [Emmy]   and   [Mentat]   into the station, and didn’t realize that until a few minutes later. It had my phone, iPod, Victor Reader, chargers, and other paraphernalia not to mention my reservation number for the train trip home. Needless to say, I was relieved to see it still sitting out there when I hurriedly ran back out to the loading area looking for it. Phew!

We got our tickets at the counter and they let us board the train before the big crowds, and so we were able to find good seats, in the middle of the car, away from the restrooms, trash receptacles, and the exit doors that constantly and loudly open and close as people pass through, heading for the snack car.

No snacks for us though. Once the train rolled out of the station and as daylight filled the skies, the three of us went right to sleep and stayed that way pretty much the whole trip of nearly three hours. I didn’t wake up fully until we were almost to Altoona but was still quite tired.

We got off at Tyrone, and   [Mentat's]   sister drove   [Emmy]   and I home here to Mom’s, and we’ve been sleeping the entire day since.

It is now around 7:00 PM and we’re just now getting up. Wow. I guess we didn’t get much sleep at all over the past three days. But I feel refreshed now, so we’re going to catch up on Dr. Phil and the Young and the Restless. After all this sleeping, we’ll probably be awake all night again. But we have three hours of Y&R and three of Dr. Phil, as well as a couple DVS movies we brought with us. That should keep us busy.
