Today’s Business: 2009-09-21
Got an early start on the day today; woke up at 7:00 AM.Â
Journaled for twenty minutes or so. I was feeling a bit depressed initially; no doubt because of all the white flour I’ve consumed the past several days. I’ll feel better as my diet returns to normal, now that I’m home again.
Balanced all checking accounts except for Mom’s. I plan on doing this tomorrow morning.
Defrosted upstairs refrigerator and moved the food there into the big refrigerator in the kitchen. This way, the small unit can be turned off while Mom is away and so, we can have a cheaper electricity bill.
Replaced the leaky bathroom faucet. Click  here  for more details on this job.
Washed all pending laundry, including clothes, blankets, sheets, pillow cases, mattress covers, and pillow protectors. Six loads done.
Watched The Young and the Restless, some news on CNN, NBC Nightly News, and listened to a half-hour or so on KYW News Radio 1060 from Philadelphia.
Processed a bunch of mail — perhaps twenty pieces. We get way too much mail around here.

Cleaned the air cleaner units in the furnace in preparation for this winter. Normally, I take the two pieces outside and hose them down with a power washer. But I read somewhere that the dishwasher works well also, and has the added benefit of drying them too. So this time, I’m trying the dishwasher.   Stand by for results…
Well, the dishwasher did a  reasonably good  job on the air filter cartridges, but not as well as the power washer does. They may be clean enough however, to get us through the winter though. We’ll have to see, once they’re reinstalled in the furnace, if these cartridges make a lot of snapping noises. If they do, then they’re not clean enough and will have to be power washed. But if they’re quiet, then they are indeed clean enough. Perhaps they need not be pristine to work well, and it is much easier doing them in the dish washer than having to lug the power washer outside, hook it up, and spray down the units. Though the dishwasher might not get them quite as clean as the power washer, the effort it saves might be worth the trade off. We’ll find out if it worked well enough shortly.
Talked with [Emmy] on the phone. She didn’t like the pork roast, saying that it was too salty. So next time, we’ll omit the ham flavoring packet.
Fixed hard-to-turn key problems with the kitchen door. This involved tightening all screws on door hinges as well as slightly repositioning the strike plates. These adjustments are required almost every time the seasons change. So come next spring, the door will probably need further adjusting.  But it’s good for the winter anyhow. Â
