Today’s Business: 2009-09-23

Journaled this morning.  I’m creating some new material for the   Tom’s Love Quest   blog in an effort to overcome the dry spill that has set in over there during the summer.  Much has happened in the quest over the past two months.  But I’ve just been too busy with other tasks to get it all typed in.  But have no fear.  It’s all in my journals and will be added to this and the love quest blog this fall.

Paid all pending bills (5).

Cooked a Tyson beef roast today that came pre packaged with small russet potatoes, carrots, onions, and celery.  I added some extra carrots for a more hearty meal.  This will provide supper for the next few days.  :-) It was delicious, and I even used the included packet of seasonings; previously I used this pack and didn’t like the flavor.  But to this roast, I added about ten ounces of water, and this diluted the flavor packet enough to make it subtly tasty, without that overpowering, salty flavor noted in the last roast.

Received the ear plugs I ordered nearly a week ago from  Earplugs Online.

My brother in law stopped by this afternoon; he and his son worked up some great ideas for building a ramp for Mom into the house here when she gets home.  I thanked him profusely for his effort, but told him that we wouldn’t really know how wide a wheelchair she’d be using will be, until she actually comes home.  She may not even need a wheelchair.  But it’s nice to know that we have a plan in place to implement at a moment’s notice, should she need a ramp quickly built.

I’ve decided to take on the project of   replacing the roof on our shed   out back.  So I discussed this with my brother-in-law while he was here.  He offered to help me get started, as this is my first roofing job.  But it’s a very small roof, it’s low to the ground, and its layout appears very simple to duplicate with the new shingles.  I think we should be able to complete this job in a day or two.  Hopefully this weekend, he can take me to Lowe’s or Home Depot to buy the supplies.

Visited Mom tonight.  She seemed pretty happy albeit a bit sleepy.  Her blood sugar was high today, at 427.  No doubt, much of this was because Mom went out to lunch and missed her 11:30 dose of insulin.  Plus, she had some floury things at the restaurant they took them to.  Further, she still has an infection and she’s taking an antibiotic for that; two things that typically raise blood sugar levels.  Hopefully, once she gets off the antibiotic and the infection is eradicated, her blood sugar levels will fall once more.

Watched The Young and the Restless and NBC Nightly News.

Talked with [Emmy] on the telephone.

Another gray and rainy day today.  The sun was out a bit this morning and a few instants this afternoon.  But otherwise, the weather was dreary, though warm.  The temperatures peaked at around 80 degrees.
