Mom’s Status: 2009-10-07

08:19 PM: Just heard from sister Christine, who just heard from Mom, that she’ll probably be coming home early next week.  We must check with her doctor to make sure he knows all the particulars about the limitations to accessibility in the house here (no ramp built yet).  This means that Mom will have to climb the steps as well as walk over uneven ground to get in and out of the place.  Plus, we want to be sure that the physical therapists are also okay with Mom leaving the nursing facility and that the amount that Mom will need to walk here is okay with them.

Assuming that she really is coming on Monday or Tuesday, this weekend, sister Mary Ann and her husband will probably come up to help me get this house ready.  The fact that Mom will be using a wheelchair means that some furniture must be moved around here.  Shouldn’t take more than an hour or so.  But I do need a second and third set of hands in addition to my own, to make it happen.  It will be nice to see these folks, as they always bring an abundance of good cheer; even if they do bring lots of pizza with them, that I just can’t seem to keep away from.  :-)

Oh yes, the sisters report that Mom hasn’t been answering her phone very much lately.  As it turns out, she was out at trivial pursuit last night, which was when the bulk of the calls to her were attempted.  Apparently, she has recovered completely from whatever it was that was making her feel so bad this past Monday.

08:50 PM:  Just got off the phone with Mom.  She’s in great spirits; very alert and happy.  She’s excited about coming home, sometime next week she says.  She needs no more clean laundry brought up.  She doesn’t know what she might want JoJo and I to pick up at the store for her on Friday.  But I’ll check back tomorrow night with her.  Certainly don’t want her to come home to an empty refrigerator.  :-)
