DJ Wedding Gig: 2009-10-24

At the end of last month, I was asked to host a wedding reception for a friend that sister JoJo works with.  I accepted.  So this week, I’ll be adding all the latest music I have from Promo Only to the library.  When that’s done, there should be around 59000 songs in my collection.

The reception will be at the American Legion hall in Bellwood, on October 24th, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM.

So far, the bride has made no special requests for music, although she did say that she wants my light show.  No problem.

Nephew Garrett will be my roadie for this event.

Heard from the bride today. She wants to hear the song, I Love You by the Climax Blues Band. I have it. No problem. I’ll call her tomorrow and let her know.

I called the bride back this morning and let her know that I do indeed have the song I Love You by the Climax Blues Band. She says that she’ll pay me for this gig either today or tomorrow.

Today I’m testing the computer to assure that all is well with the music drive, cables, power adapters, Etc. All updates applied without problems and everything works properly.

The bride dropped off the check just now. So, she’s paid in full. We’ll head to the gig tomorrow afternoon, at around 3:30 PM.

06:52 PM: Nephew Garrett just called to confirm that he’ll be driving me to the gig tomorrow. He’ll get here aroudn 3:00 PM to visit with Mom a bit, and then we’ll hit the road at 3:30 PM.

Garrett just arrived. We’ll be heading for storage to get the equipment in 25 minutes. The rain has let up too, which is good for moving electronics around. :-)

The gig went well but I was very ready for it to end when it did. Not sure why. Perhaps it was the smoky environment. Perhaps I ate too many cookies — too much sugar makes me cranky. But the bride said that she was pleased with my DJing; she liked all the music and the guests enjoyed themselves as well. I’ll put the playlist I used up here once transferred from the DJ laptop.

I did however, experience a failure of the music hard drive. It kept spinning down and then back up again, causing Winamp to hang while playing. Fortunately, I had a backup drive but I was a bit nervous while playing, knowing that I had no working backup drive with me. So sometime next week, I’ll replace the failed drive. I have one more Seagate 250 GB drive. Hopefully, this is the last such drive I’ll need before replacing all my 250 GB drives with 1.5 TB drives. That upgrade should take place sometime in 2011; sooner if I fill up the 250s sooner; they each have 12 GB of free space left.

The hard drive has been repaired. Click here for more details.

I’d say that this gig is history now, assuming that there’s no problem cashing the check I received from the bride. I’ll let you know if there is.
