Mom’s Status: 2009-10-20

07:20 AM: Blood sugar reading: 121.  Nice!  Covered with 8 units insulin.  She had a slice of toast with jelly and a cup of tea for breakfast.

08:40 AM: Sister Mary Ann and I took Mom to her eye appointment.

10:00 AM: The eye doctor reports that Mom’s eyes show no unusual deterioration.  However, some aging and blood vessel failure due to normal aging and diabetes she noted.  Next appointment is in January, 2009.

11:00 AM: We dined at Perkins for brunch.

12:00 PM: Mom did not read her blood sugar, but did give herself 11 units insulin to cover her Perkins meal.

02:43 PM: Mom’s physical therapist stopped by and is working with her now.

05:35 PM: Blood sugar: 216.  Covered with 12 units insulin.

07:00 PM: Mom had Rice Krispies and a piece of banana for supper.

10:00 PM: Blood sugar: 253.  Not good.  Gave her 14 units insulin to cover.  We really must get better at estimating how much insulin she’ll need based on what she’s going to eat; especially when bananas and cereal involved — many carbs.
