12:30 PM: Worked the   Gutter Maintenance Project   this morning.

01:00 PM: Working now on the   Shed Roof Replacement Project.

04:45 PM: Work outside done for today.

06:00 PM: Debbie and I did a   Mini Shopping Trip   at Hometown Market.

07:00 PM: Chinese for dinner; chicken cashew and rice for me.  Yum.

08:30 PM: Talked with [Emmy].

09:30 PM: Studied how to install ridge shingles for the    Shed Roof Replacement Project.

10:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of The Young and the Restless and last Sunday’s edition of  Face the Nation.

10:30 PM: Did two loads of laundry.

10:40 PM: A find day today weather-wise; mostly sunny and calm with high temperatures reaching the low to mid 70s.

11:00 PM: Good night.  I’m going to bed now.

Mini Shopping Trip

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Debbie offered to take me shopping in Bellwood.  We didn’t need much.  But I’ll certainly go when an offer to go is on the table.  She’s sweet for doing it.  Anyway, here is what we bought:

  • Pyrex mixing bowls (4)
  • Bananas (1 bunch)
  • Half and Half (1 quart)
  • Maxwell House Decaf Coffee (1 can)
  • Dunkin’ Donuts Decaf Coffee (1 pound)
  • Pepperidge Farm Light Style Seven Grain Bread (2 Loaves)
  • Kraft American Cheese Slices (2 bags)

Total cost this trip: $39.23

Mom’s Status: 2009-10-21

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

08:00 AM: Blood sugar: 202.  Covered with 14 units insulin.  She had two slices of toast for breakfast afterward.

12:30 PM: Blood sugar: 242.  Covered with 16 units insulin.  She kept busy all morning going through her things in her bedroom, figuring out what she would keep and what she would discard.  Her mood is good.

12:46 PM: Debbie is visiting Mom this evening, and we’ll also go to the store to pick up a few essentials.

07:10 PM: Blood sugar: 200.  Covered with 15 units of insulin, since she just ate a bunch of Chinese food including egg rolls, rice, and chicken with a sweet and sour sauce.

07:45 PM: Mom discovered a new sore on her left foot.  We’ll keep an eye on it.

10:30 PM: Blood sugar: 267.  Not good.  Probably from the egg rolls and rice she had for supper.  Covered with 17 units insulin; she was eating cookies when I prepared this dose.  So I gave her a few more units to cover the cookies.

Gutter Maintenance: 2009

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

12:30 PM: Cleaned the gutters this morning. Some of the spouting needed repair; it came loose, probably from some heavy ice last winter. That slowed me down a bit. But it’s fixed now, with screws that are thicker and longer than what was there before. Hopefully, it will hold better too.

Also noticed that a few of the gutter joints require re-caulking; the existing caulking is looking decrepit, and the joints do leak in a few well-known places; above the south porch steps and outside the bathroom window.  As soon as I get more caulk and the weather warms up again, I’ll fix these.
