Lowe’s Shopping Trip

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

12:00 PM: Brother-in-law Tom came up this morning and we headed to Lowe’s to pick up a few things for the   Shed Roof Replacement Project, and to look at options for the   Wheelchair Ramp Project.  I bought the following:

  • Reflector sticks (three) to put around the east parking space
  • Clorox Anywhere Cleaner (two bottles)
  • CLR Bath and Kitchen Cleaner (two bottles).  Great stuff for removing hard water stains from the bathub.
  • Ridge Vent (eight foot) (one)
  • Ridge Vent Joiner (one)
  • Downspout caulking (two tubes)
  • Tarps (three) for the DJ equipment.

Total cost: $73.20

Mom’s Status: 2009-10-24

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

07:30 AM: Mom’s blood sugar: 189.  Covered with 6 units insulin.  She had four ounces of orange juice with her pills.  She grumbled a bit about me waking her up so soon after she had fallen asleep.  So I reminded her that keeping to a schedule is necessary for gaining maximum control over the blood sugar.  She then brightened up quickly, took her meds and insulin, and nothing more was said.  All is well again.

12:15 PM: Mom’s blood sugar: 181.  Covered with 6 units insulin.

02:15 PM: The twins brought some salad, potato soup, and a wheat roll for Mom.  Covered with 6 units insulin.

10:40 PM: Blood sugar: 164.  Covered with 4 units insulin.  She’s eating a low-carb salad so she shouldn’t need any more insulin to cover it.

Networking an HP 3330 Printer

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

07:15 AM: Looking into adding my HP LaserJet 3330 printer to my home network. Why?  The computer I had been using as a print server that performed this function broke down last week.  This means that I can’t print to this printer from any other networked computer here at the home office until I get this print serving computer going again. However, at eleven years old, repairing this computer is undesirable.  It’s definitely ready for the hopper.

Eventually, I want to gut it and install a new motherboard, power supply, and hard drives.  However, I’m not ready to do that just yet.

In the meantime, I’ve learned that you can add a network card to this printer, which gives it a “presence” on the network without it actually being connected directly to a computer’s printer port.  These cards are very cheap these days.  So I need to find out which card works with the 3330, and order it.

With this approach, the pressure is off to replace the old computer until I know the components I want to buy, and I have the money to buy them.  :-)

Today’s Business: 2009-10-24

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

06:20 AM: I’m up. Temperature outside: 56 degrees, and it’s dark and raining at present.

08:10 AM: For the   Shed Roof Replacement Project,  I checked the roof for leaks in this morning’s drenching rain.  None found.  It’s completely dry inside the shed.  Beautiful!

09:00 AM: Brother-in-law Tom came by and we sent shopping at Lowe’s.

11:30 AM: We arrived back here and spent an hour or so measuring for the   Wheelchair Ramp Project.

02:00 PM: Getting ready for the   Wedding Reception DJ Gig  later today.

10:45 PM: Just got back from the DJ Wedding Reception Gig.  All went well; I’m quite tired actually.  I need a couple days off.  :-)
