Log

09:00 AM: I’m up.  Slept in this morning due to the late night I had the night before last.  Hopefully, I’m caught up on sleep now.

11:00 AM: Completed the   Gutter Maintenance Project   for this year.

12:00 PM: Worked the  Christmas Lighting, 2009   project.

02:00 PM: Salmon with lemon pepper and garlic salt for lunch, along with, um, shall we call it a generous portion, of Halloween candy for dessert.

04:45 PM: Went on   a little shopping trip to Lowe’s   to get some plywood for a temporary walkway for Mom, for the   Wheelchair Ramp Project.

06:30 PM:  Just woke up from an hour plus nap.  *Yawn*  Now I’m ready to take on the evening.

07:50 PM: Disabled WordPress post revisions   once again on all of my blogs.  Apparently, this functionality became active again in the WordPress version upgrades I’ve done since last March.  But it’s disabled once more and any saved revisions have beeen removed from the databases.

09:28 PM: Watched today’s episode of  The Young and the Restless.

10:30 PM: Talked with [Emmy].

10:45 PM: Headed for bed now.  Good night.

Shopping Trip to Lowe’s

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Since we won’t be able to lay any concrete until next spring for a sidewalk, as needed in the  Wheelchair Ramp Project, we’re putting down plywood in the meantime, to give Mom a smooth surface to wheel over until the permanent ramp and sidewalk are installed.  So, brother-in-law Richard and I drove up to Lowe’s this afternoon and purchased the following:

  • 4′ X 8′ X 3/4” outdoor plywood (4 sheets)
  • Stake reflectors (8)
  • Misc wood pieces (1)

Total cost: $146.85

Disabling Post Revisions in WordPress 2.8.5

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I discovered that WordPress was again saving every revision of every post, though I had disabled this feature back in March.  Click   here   for more details.  But apparently, in one or more of the many software releases since then, somehow saving these revisions became enabled once more. So I turned off this feature by adding the following lines of code to the wp-config.php file for each of my blogs:

// Disable post revisions.
define(’WP_POST_REVISIONS’, false);

I also changed line 576 in the wp-settings.php file from

$default_constants = array( ‘WP_POST_REVISIONS’ => true );

to

$default_constants = array( ‘WP_POST_REVISIONS’ => false );

Also note that the line number has changed since March from 495 to 576.

Then I deleted all the revisions that had been saved to this point from each blog database by executing the following SQL statement:

DELETE FROM wp_posts WHERE post_type = “revision”;

This query resulted in the deletion of over 900 rows from the   Tom’s Diary   blog database, 327 rows from the   Tom’s Love Quest   blog, and 40 rows from the   Tom’s Views   blog database.

I then logged out and back into each site’s admin id and verified that the revisions saved thus far no longer appear on the Edit Post screen. The deletion apparently worked.   These instructions have been verified to work with WordPress 2.8.5.

That’s all.

Mom’s Status: 2009-10-27

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

08:00 AM: Blood sugar: 190.  Covered with 12 units insulin to account for her breakfast.

11:00 AM: We talked with her endocrinologist’s office.  They insist that the doctor must see Mom in person.  His assistants tell me that the doctor will not do a telephone consultation, and this is in spite of relating Mom’s difficulties getting in and out of her house.  Due to these hardships, we must minimize her trips out until she can put weight on her bad foot again.

11:30 AM: Again, Mom campaigned to reduce her daily sugar testing to twice a day from four times a day.  Again, I explained that unless she virtually eliminates carbs from her diet, that twice a day would just not be enough to assure that she would not experience these high blood-sugar spikes.  She complained about having to pay $167 for a 45-day supply of test strips, and I told her that this is not such a high price if it means avoiding the loss of her feet or vision to the deteriorating effects of frequently high blood sugar values.  She reluctantly agreed.  But I wonder when we’ll have this argument again.  It seems to come up every couple weeks.

12:50 PM: Mom doesn’t want to see the endocrinologist.  We’re cancelling the appointment.

12:53 PM: Her PCP does not need to see Mom until her foot is better.  That will save us a trip to his office.

01:10 PM: Blood sugar: 162. Covered with 12 units insulin. She also ate a can of chicken noodle soup and some crackers.

06:30 PM: Blood sugar: 183. Covered with 12 units insulin.

10:45 PM: Blood sugar: 193.  Covered with 12 units insulin.
