08:00 AM: I’m up.  Lots of foggy window glass this morning.  Looks like our gas heaters in the basement are generating lots of humidity.  Over all, that is a good thing.

It’s a clear, sunny day so far with current temperatures at around 32 degrees.

08:15 AM: Mom’s making poached eggs for breakfast.

09:30 AM: Weeded out all junk mail in the current stack in my in-basket.  Writing out checks for all pending bills as I’m on hold with the various businesses, to get our mailing address updated per the E-911 project.

10:30 AM: Changed our mailing address with my checking account bank and our telephone provider; both of them had the wrong zip code on our bills.  They phone company will call back with an automated message when the changes are complete.  The bank will send an email and a printed mail message, confirming the change.  Both Mom’s and my phone accounts will be updated.

12:00 PM:  Called our  alumni association’s   investment firm to make the withdraw per the board.  The person who manages our savings was not available.  So I left her a message.  Hopefully, she’ll call back shortly.  Our checking account is getting low.  :-)

12:30 PM: The alumni account advisor called me back.  She’s out of the office today, but will call me again tomorrow morning at around 10:00, so we can complete the funds transfer.

01:00 PM: Balanced the   WPSBC Alumni Sssociation’s,   Mom’s,  and my checking accounts.

01:20 PM: Paid eight pending bills for this month.

04:45 PM: Sister Christine dropped by to return some laundry she’d taken home to wash for Mom.  Then, we went to Kopp Drug to pick up a canister of diabetic test strips for Mom.

05:30 PM: Did laundry most of the afternoon; both Mom’s and mine.

09:00 PM: Processed all pending grocery receipts for October,2009, by figuring out which parts of them Mom owes me for, and vice versa.

10:30 PM: Talked with [Emmy].

10:45 PM: All laundry dried, folded, and put away.

12:00 AM: Worked for the past hour or so on some new posts for the   Tom’s Love Quest   blog.

12:10 AM: I’m now bushed.  So I’m off to bed. Sleep well everyone, and I’ll chat at you later today.  Take care.

07:30 AM: Blood sugar: 194, although she says that she ate a good bit overnight.  Covered with 12 units log insulin.

12:40 PM Blood sugar: 136.  Covered with 6 units log insulin.

04:15 PM: Spent a half-hour on the phone with a Security Blue pre-enrollment representative, to decide if it would benefit Mom to switch medical insurance plans for 2010.  Still not sure.  So the fellow is sending us a package that details the proposed new plan.  That should get here in mid November.

I get the jitters switching plans because what if there’s some hidden caveat about the new plan that we don’t discover until after we’ve switched?  That’s why I really need the policy in print in front of me.  It’s so tempting to skip past those hare-to-answer questions and say, “Oh no, that doesn’t apply to me.  So I needn’t worry about it.”  But when choosing a new medical plan, those are the very questions that are the most important to answer.  Getting the answers can be so time-consuming and difficult, but oh so necessary as well.  We’ll get the answers once the packet from Security Blue arrives.

04:30 PM; Still awaiting the arrival of Mom’s test strips.  A letter came today from the vendor who we purchased these from two weeks ago.  It said that they could not ship them until we paid them a co payment.  Great.  Mom is out of test strips and the new ones won’t arrive at least for a few days.  We tried calling the vendor the expedite the shipment.  But their computer system was down and so they couldn’t help us right away.  So, we ended up just buying a canister of strips outright and locally from Kopp Drug store.  They’re $1 per strip.  So we bought enough to get us through until Mom’s original order arrives.

05:00 PM: Blood sugar: 149.  Covered with 6 units log insulin.

06:00 PM: Mam ate about 50 grams of carbs.  covered with 5 units log insulin.

10:30 PM: Blood sugar: 225.  Covered with 12 units log insulin.
