07:05 AM: I’m up, and doing my wake-up chores, which include cat duty, giving Mom her meds, and showering.

10:05 AM: The alumni saving account advisor called me back, right on schedule.  Don’t you just love it when people are punctual?  Anyway, she’s sending me the forms to fill out for setting up automatic transfer of the money from that account into our checking account.  She’s also going to call me back in a little while, once she figures out the best fund for us to withdraw from at present.

10:55 AM: Renewed my   Promo Only music subscriptions for 2010.

11:45 AM: Sister Mary Ann arrived a little while ago to drive Mom and me to her doctors appointment this afternoon.  For more details about what the doctor said, click   here.

05:00 PM: Just got home.

07:55 PM: Sister Mary Ann just left.  She, Mom, and I had a nice visit for a couple hours just now in Mom’s sitting room, and we’re making plans for the Thanksgiving dinner too.  Mom wants to host it here for the family.  So Mom and I will do the turkey, and Mary Ann will come up the weekend before and make sure all the good place settings are washed and ready.  We’ve also ordered some pies from a restaurant nearby that we’ll pick up the day before Thanksgiving.  Yes, it’s starting to feel like the holidays, and I love it.

09:40 PM: Watched yesterday’s and today’s episodes of  The Young and the Restless.

10:50 PM: Talked with [Emmy].  She’s listening to the Penguins play the Ducks, and as the game is on the west coast, it didn’t start until 10:00 PM EST.  She’s staying up for the whole thing.  But I am not.  :-)

11:00 PM: I’m going to bed now.  Good night.

Promo Only Music Subscriptions

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

10:55 AM: Renewed my Promo Only music subscriptions for 2010.

I’m also trying out their new Audio DFF weekly delivery format.  If there’s a lot of   overlap   between this and the mainstream, country, and urban radio series that I currently get, I’ll probably drop those series and keep DFF.  Unfortunately, the agent couldnt’ tell me specifically how much overlap there might be (by overlap, I’m referring to particular songs that appear on more than one series, or appear multiple times within the same series.  When this happens, it means that I’m paying for a recurring song more than once as well, which, for obvious reasons, I wish not to do.  :-)

The DFF subscription costs $45 per month.  Plus, because I’m one of the first audio DFF subscribers, I get the Mainstream Radio monthly series for $10 per month (which is a discount of $2.50 per month off the price I had been paying in previous years).  Then, I’m paying for the three other subscriptions (country, urban, and modern rock) at $12.50 per month each.  Thus, my total monthly music subscription fees are $45 (audio DFF) plus $10 (Mainstream Radio) plus $12.50 X 3 (Modern Rock, Urban, and Country), which equals $92.50 per month.  I’m hopeful that once I get a feel for audio DFF, that I’ll find that I can get rid of the Mainstream and Country radio series, and thus, save some money.  But time will tell.

06:30 AM: Blood sugar: 194. Covered with 11 units log insulin.

11:00 AM: Sister Mary Ann arrived to drive us to Mom’s orthopedic appointment this afternoon.  We’ll get some lunch beforehand though.

01:30 PM: Blood sugar: 125.  She had a whopper at Burger King and a few french fries. So covered with 12 units log insulin.

03:00 PM: Mom’s orthopedic doctor said the following:

  • She has charcot foot in both feet, although it’s more pronounced in the right foot.
  • Ideally, there is to be no weight-bearing on either foot. But If she must, she can put a small amount of weight on the left foot now and then for brief periods; but not the right foot.  No weight on this foot whatsoever.
  • Keep wearing the special boot on the right foot.
  • Consistently high blood sugar values over time often cause the sort of bone deterioration she’s experiencing in her feet.  It’s good he told her this, as it may help her stay motivated to keep the sugar under control.
  • Keep the blood sugar under tight control to slow or stop the progress of this disease.
  • She must rely on her wheelchair to get around, practically all the time.
  • The x-rays and CT scan taken at Altoona Hospital last week as well as the ones taken today show nothing unexpected.
  • She’s still in the acute stages of charcot foot in both feet.
  • His office scheduled another appointment three months from now to check if any healing is happening.
  • Reconstructive surgery on the right foot may be necessary, but only as a last resort, due to the strong possibility that, since she’s a diabetic and since her leg arteries show some calcification, her foot would not heal afterwards.  In that case, she may lose the foot.

06:00 PM: Blood sugar: 127.  Holding off on dispensing insulin until she’s ready to eat supper.  Her mood’s been very good all day, owing to the good sugar readings.  Keep up the good work, Mom.

09:30 PM: Blood sugar: 205.  For this and the two slices of toast she ate for an evening snack, covered with 12 units log insulin.
