08:00 AM: I’m up.

09:00 AM: Installed eight Microsoft updates on this computer. including the Windows Live suite of programs.  Not that I’ll ever use these; especially since I really like Microsoft Office.  But I may look at them from time to time so I can answer any questions I might get from my computer customers about them.  They could become quite popular, as the Live suite is free to use as of this writing.

09:30 AM: Followed up on   Mom’s currently pending prescription order.

09:57 AM: Worked the   Wheelchair Ramp Project

10:01 AM: Another short-duration power outage just happened.  So, worked the   Ongoing Power Outages   problem.

11:45 AM: Worked the   Christmas lighting, 2009 project.   Added more lights, trimmed a tree, and investigated further the metal halide floodlights I’ve been obsessing over.  I just love lights; all kinds of lights; especially the bright blue ones.

12:25 PM: Balanced Mom’s checking account.  No nasty surprises uncovered, although this is the second month in a row that my calculations of what should be in the account differ from the bank’s by $0.60.  Looking at the statement, I dont’ see any $0.60 charges.  So this must be embedded in an already-existing charge.   If this happens next month, I’ll call the bank.  The error is in our favor this month.  But last month, it favored the bank.  Perhaps there was a problem in their software last month that they this month corrected.  I dunno.  :-)

01:00 PM: Rode to Tipton with Mom’s friend Mary Kay, to apply for a property tax rebate.  However, the office was closed for the Veteran’s day holiday today.  So we picked up some Texas hot dogs while we were down there — just to avoid a wasted trip, you understand.  :-)    We’ll go back again tomorrow.

02:11 PM: Discovered a new bug in the Tommy’s Tunes software.  See the   TTConvWavToMp4 Program Crashing   post for more details.

04:00 PM: Added two new link groups that appear in the right-hand sidebar, on   this   blog’s home page.  Not only do they tell my readers at a glance what I’m up to, but they provide me with an easy way to access those posts, pertinent to my current efforts.  They’re called    Current Projects   and   Finished Projects.  Current Projects lists the posts for things I’m currently working on, while the   Completed Projects   group lists the efforts I’ve completed; successfully or not.  :-)

06:10 PM: Debbie just arrived.  We’re going to the grocery store shortly.

07:40 PM: Just got back from our   grocery shopping trip,  and we’ve put everything away.  Not much this time, as compared with the   shopping trip   on Sunday.  But still, the fact that we needed so much groceries today after having just been shopping three days ago rather shocked me.

09:17 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless.

10:40 PM: Talked with [Emmy].  She’s bored.

11:00 PM: Gave Mom her meds and now, I’m beat and heading off to bed.  Have a great evening and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow.

Thanksgiving Dinner, 2009

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Today, Debbie and I purchased a 20-pound honeysuckle turkey on our   grocery shopping trip.  So it seemed appropriate to declare this day the official start of the Thanksgiving Dinner, 2009  effort.  Mom and I are hosting the affair here at 2:00 PM on Thanksgiving day (November 26th, 2009).

The Guest List

The guest list  follows:

  • [Emmy]
  • Sister Mary Ann, her husband, and their three daughters
  • Sister Mary Ann’s sister-in-law, [Ethel] and her son

 Ten people total.

The Menu

Items on the menu include:

  • Vegetable tray
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Turkey (of course)
  • Green bean casserole — [Ethel] is bringing this
  • Mashed potatoes with gravy
  • Baked yams with optional marshmallow topping
  • Creamed cauliflower
  • Stuffing (filling) both wet and dry
  • Corn
  • Assorted pies, ice cream, and whipped cream  for dessert

The rest of my siblings will cook dinner at their own houses but will come here later in the day for dessert.

And so, the preparations begin.  Look in the comments for this post to track our progress.

Texas Hot Dogs: 2009-11-11

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Had four Texas hot dogs from Austin’s eatery for lunch, that pretty much filled me up for the rest of the day.  This might sound like a lot.  But really, they’re quite small.  So I make them more filling by getting them with with lots of black pepper, chili sauce, and extra diced onions.  Ymn!

Total cost: $9.86

TTConvWavToMp4 Program Crashing

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

02:15 PM: Discovered a new bug in the TTConvWavToMp4 program in the Tommy’s Tunes software suite.  When you run the program, and just after it finishes converting the first WAV file to MP4 format, you see one of those dialog boxes that informs you that the program had to end and asks if you want to send an error report to Microsoft.  Investigating.  See the comments below for details on the progress of this problem toward resolution.

07:00 AM: Blood sugar: 157.  She covered that and her breakfast with 11 units of log insulin.

08:30 AM: Her feet are feeling better today as well (no pain).

11:00 AM: Blood sugar: 139.

12:30 PM: She ate lunch and covered with 10 units of log insulin.

05:12 PM: Blood sugar: 166.  Covered with 6 units of log insulin.

07:50 PM:  She ate supper and covered with 10 units of log insulin.  She and Debbie are gabbing and laughing now.  It’s nice to hear Mom in such a good mood; which has been pretty consistent lately with her blood sugar readings being better than they’ve been in quite some time.  I think we’re really starting to get a feel for how insulin works in her body.  Hopefully, it’s not too late to save her feet.

11:00 PM: Blood sugar: 160.  Covered this and a snack she ate with 10 units of log insulin.
