Log

07:20 AM: I’m up.

11:10 AM: Just got back from   today’s shopping trip.  Putting the treasures away now.

12:00 PM: Worked the   household organization effort.

12:55 PM: Just informed [Olga] and her husband about   Richard Meckler’s passing.  They were shocked and noticeably saddened as was I to hear it.  [Olga] did speak briefly with Rich’s wife.  But she didn’t feel much like talking.  So we all might have to wait a few days before calling her again.

01:30 PM: Worked the   Christmas lighting, 2009 project.  I’ll be putting up lights along both sides of the driveway this afternoon, while the weather is still so gorgeous.

05:00 PM: Brother-in-law Richard came by with a trailer.  We’re buying some wood and supplies for the    wheelchair ramp project   on    tonight’s shopping trip.

07:15 PM: After we got the wood picked out, purchased, loaded, driven here, then unloaded, I went back to work on the   Christmas lighting, 2009 project.

09:40 PM: Just finished watching today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless.  Now, I’m calling [Emmy] for a chat.

10:30 PM: Watched a half-hour of AC 360.  Sarah Palin appeared there, again!  Apparently, she just published a book that’s rather controversial among McCain insiders.  *sigh*  I don’t care.  The media gives this woman way more attention than she warrants.  Nope.  You guessed it.  I’m no Palin fan.

10:45 PM: One thing I learned yesterday on Promo Only’s Express Audio DFF delivery format: They’re shipping future issues in DVD ROM format instead of CD ROM.  This gives them much more space on each disk to, hopefully, fit more new music each week on.  The disc was almost full on the first issue I got this past Monday.  They could either include more music, or offer multiple format and bits-per-second choices for each song in the issue.  I’m curious to see what Promo Only will utilize the added space of DVD ROM.

11:15 PM: Time for bed.  I’m almost out of steam.  So good night, and look for more here tomorrow.

Tonight’s Shopping Trip

Richard and I went to Lowe’s to get the wood and supplies for version two of the temporary ramp for Mom, as part of the   wheelchair ramp construction project. We purchased the following:

  • 32 Ft. of roll roofing (green and white) (1 roll)
  • 2′ X 6′ X 16′ plank (3)
  • 2′ X 4′ X 16′ plank (2)
  • 4′ X 4′ X 8′ planks (4)
  • 4′ X 8′ X 3/4” treated plywood (2 sheets)
  • 1 & 5/8” star drive screws (2 pounds)
  • Joist hanger for 2′ X 6′ planks
  • 2” wide ratchet strap (for tying the wood in for the trip home)

Total cost: 182.54

After we finished the shopping, we had sandwiches at Dominic’s, just outside the exit at Lowe’s.   Yum.

Shopping Trip Today

This morning, sister Jojo and I went out.  First stop: Wal Mart.  Here’s what I bought:

Total cost: $273.58

Then, we picked up Mom’s meds.  Total cost: $75.

Next, we stopped at Home Depot to turn in ten non-working and quite old strings of Christmas lights.  So while there, I purchased the following:

  • GE 65-watt, type BR30  flood light bulbs (18) (for our recessed fixtures in the kitchen).  they had these for a dollar a piece.  So I couldn’t resist.

Total cost: $19.08

Finally, we went to the bank to deposit a few checks.

So the grand total for this trip was: $367.66

Log

08:00 AM: Blood sugar: 251.   Covered with 16 units of log insulin.  After some prodding, she revealed that she ate a piece of cake overnight without taking insulin, and some vanilla pudding.  When will she learn?   :-)

12:10 PM: The home nurse along with an assistant, just arrived.

12:30 PM: Blood sugar: 141.  Covered with 6 units of log insulin.

07:15 PM: Blood sugar: 137.

10:50 PM: Blood sugar: 209.  She ate cookies earlier without giving herself any insulin, which explains the high reading.  Her excuse was that the blood sugar was 120 before the snack, so she didn’t think she needed to take any.  I tell you, she just doesn’t get it, or refuses to.  I’m not sure which.  Perhaps if we all relentlessly remind  her that she must take insulin  anytime  she eats, maybe she’ll eventually take it to heart; hopefully before losing a foot, her vision, or something else.
