Log

10:00 AM: I’m up.  Still, it’s 14 degrees outside.  Hasn’t warmed much since bedtime, even though there’s daylight out there now.  Yep, we’re in for a chilly and gray day it appears.

12:15 PM: Posted the   Weight Gain: 2010-01-03   piece.   Yep, my weight’s up a little.  :-(

05:15 PM: Spent the afternoon clearing out the DVR; we watched some of these shows, and we either skimmed, or skipped others, as we’ve already seen them:

  • 2009-12-08 Dr. Phil episode
  • 2009-12-09 Dr. Phil episode, titled:   Are You ready?

07:30 PM: Listened to the Penguins lose to the Florida Panthers on the Internet radio with   [Emmy].

08:30 PM: Synced [Emmy]‘s iPod with our new Walking2010 playlist, using her data cable.  We thought her cable might be causing very slow syncing on her computer.  However, this is not the case, as the cable works very well on my machine.  She must have some other problem.  So, when she returns to Pittsburgh, I’ll log on to her computer remotely and see if I can’t discern the trouble(s).

09:00 PM: Journaled for a half-hour or so.

09:40 PM: Worked the   Christmas Lighting, 2009   project.  Put more stuff away.

12:15 AM: Posted today’s list of revised or added posts to this blog,   here.

12:35 AM: Heading, once more, to bed, since it’s back to full-time work tomorrow.  See you then.

    Weight Gain: 2010-01-03

    Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Shame on me.  My weight is up 2 pounds since yesterday.  I probably ate too much taco dip and chocolate at Christine’s on New Years day.  Plus, that second plate of sauerkraut, potatoes, and pork yesterday likely contributed to the scale moving in the wrong direction as well; not to mentions the pancakes and syrup yesterday morning for breakfast.

But the holidays are over now and so, I’m swearing off of all refined carbs until I drop the ten pounds I’d like to this month.  I’ve found, in past diets that a craving for candy and other sources of refined or concentrated sugars, can be quelled by drinking lots of green or black tea, sweetened with stevia.  So today, I’m revving up the teapot, for sure.  :-)   Typically when dieting, I drink three or four big mugs of tea per day.

10:00 AM: Dispensed her morning meds, including a further-increased dose of N insulin (now 40 units, twice a day).

10:15 AM: Blood sugar: 153.  Covered with 6 units of log insulin.  The readings are getting a little better.  I’d like to see them consistently in the 120s.

    02:00 PM: Dispensed Mom’s after-lunch meds.

02:02 PM: Blood sugar: 113.  Good!

05:10 PM: Blood sugar: 238.  Covered this and her supper with 20 units of log insulin.

05:15 PM: Dispensed Mom’s evening meds.

10:00 PM: Blood sugar: 121.  Good.

10:15 PM: Dispensed her night-time meds.  She wanted to draw the N insulin herself tonight, and when I said that she should give herself 40 units, she argued, saying that she was afraid to take that much insulin.  I assured her that I’d talked with her PCP about proper dosing of the N.  He said that he has patients that take over 100 units of it per day.  Then too, the pharmacist was surprised that we didn’t order more viles of the N for a 3-month supply.  Not sure if I persuaded her to take the entire 40.  So I can’t say for sure how much she actually took.  But she rarely draws her own insulin these days.  So I should be able to monitor the situation closely once again tomorrow when, in all likelihood, I’ll draw it again.
