Log

07:00 AM: No blood sugar reading.  But she says that she covered her breakfast with 15 units of log insulin.

10:40 AM: Blood sugar: 286.  Hmmm.  Just when we thought we were getting better control of this…   :-(  She admitted to “getting into” the pumpernickel overnight.  Unfortunately, we’ll never really master her sugar levels as long as she doesn’t take her insulin   every time she eats.  I can assure that she takes it during the day.  But I’ll not stay up all night to keep an eye on her.  Some part of this she’s just going to have to manage herself.  If she refuses, then there’s nothing more I can do.  GRIPE!

10:45 AM: Dispensed Mom’s morning meds, along with the 40 units of N insulin.

10:50 AM: She now takes her magnesium oxide pill in the morning, instead of at bedtime.  Why?   Because I learned a couple days ago that the gabapentin (which she   must   take at bedtime) and the mag oxide (doesn’t matter when she takes that), can interfere with one another if taken within two hours of each other.  However. there appears to be no known interactions between the mag oxide, and her other morning meds (aspirin, furosemide (lasix), and digoxin).  So, we’ll try this adjusted regimen for a couple weeks, and see if the symptoms of neuropathy in her lower legs become less pronounced.

01:55 PM: Blood sugar: 151.  Covered this and her lunch with 14 units of log insulin.

02:00 PM: Dispensed Mom’s lunch-time meds.

06:20 PM: Dispensed Mom’s evening meds.

06:40 PM: Blood sugar: 112.  Good!

10:30 PM: Blood sugar: 198.  Covered with 12 units of log insulin.

10:35 PM: Dispensed mom’s bedtime meds, including the 40 units of N insulin.
