    Pending Appointments And Issues

    1. Order more Novolog (log) insulin.  DONE.
    2. Thursday, 2010-01-14 @ 11:00 AM: Appointment with orthopedist for a quarterly checkup on the progress of healing of her charcot foot.  Sister Mary Ann will drive us to this.
    3. Friday, 2010-01-15 @ 1:30 PM: Appointment with her PCP.  Sister Jojo will drive us.  Ask the PCP for the following items:
      1. A new prescription for a 90-day supply of gabapentin 300 MG caps, taken twice a day.
      2. A blood test to see if Mom has a vitamin D deficiency.  It’s been suggested that heart patients similar to Mom, were found to have low vitamin D levels, and that this may have exacerbated, or even caused their problems.  Yes, it’s true that Mom doesn’t get out into the sun much these days either.  So she may in fact, be lacking vitamin D.  But we don’t know for sure, and so, should be carefule in assuming without further data, that she is.  In my opinion, she should not be taking   any  supplement (D or otherwise) unless a real need for it has been shown through blood tests or other meticulous studies.  Supplements like this are frequently over-sold, with the claims made about them rarely proven to be fact.  Besides, she already swallows enough pills.  So, as her primary caregiver, I’d prefer that she avoid taking more if they’re not truly necessary.
    4. Friday, 2010-01-22 @ 2:30 PM: Appointment with her eye doctor.

10:00 AM: Blood sugar: 149.  Covered this and her breakfast with 10 units of log insulin.

10:05 AM: Dispensed Mom’s morning meds, including 40 units of N insulin.

02:30 PM: Mary Ann just brought Mom home from lunch, and now, she’s on   her   way home.

    02:31 PM: Dispensed Mom’s lunch-time meds.

02:33 PM: Covered Mom’s lunch with 15 units of log insulin.

06:30 PM: Dispensed Mom’s evening meds.

07:05 PM: Blood sugar: 151.  Covered this and her supper with 12 units of log insulin.

09:30 PM: Mom informed me that she ordered more Novolog insulin today.  Great!

11:50 PM: Blood sugar: 236.  Covered with 18 units of log insulin.

11:55 PM: Dispensed Mom’s night-time meds, including the 40 units of N insulin.
