 Log

08:00 AM: I’m up.  My weight is unchanged from yesterday; it’s still 178.5 pounds.

12:00 PM: Just got back from   shopping and lunch    with Mom and sister Jojo.

01:00 PM: Heading for Mom’s PCP appointment.  Be back in a couple hours.

03:40 PM: Worked the   Christmas Lighting, 2009   project.  Put away more lights today.

04:00 PM: Received mail today follows:

  • Checking account bank statements (2).
  • Mom’s monthly medical insurance premiums bill.
  • An offer from our telephone service provider for DSL high-speed Internet service.  No thanks.
  • Sewage bill (monthly).
  • Balance transfer offer (1).  No thanks.

04:20 PM: Read through the details that   [Mentat]   provided at Christmas time, about the IRIS Internet radio.  Looks like quite the handy device and appears to be fully accessible.

05:10 PM: More lights removal, per the   Christmas Lighting, 2009   project.

07:55 PM: Created audio journal episode:   AJE-2010-01-15-19-35   on the Victor Reader Stream.  Here, I discussed how the fear of approaching women can actually make good sense to have, and to nurture.  More on that later.

08:00 PM: Watched the following television from the DVR throughout today:

  • Today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless.
  • Today’s episode of   Dr. Phil.

09:00 PM: Had a very nice conversation with [JR] tonight.  More on that at some point later.  Eventually, I’ll post details of the talk on the   Tom’s Love Quest   blog; but not yet.  The issue is still “too hot” to post about just now.

10:30 PM: Talked with [Emmy], who reports that she likes her new SleepMates, though it will take her a little time to get used to the white noise they generate.

11:30 PM: Created audio journal episode:   AJE-2010-01-15-23-17   on the Victor Reader Stream, where I discussed talking with [JR] earlier.

11:50 PM: Upgraded my Victor Reader Stream to version 3.0.3 of the onboard firmware.  No problems encountered.

11:59 PM: Posted the list of revised and / or added posts    here   for the   Tom’s Diary   blog.

12:03 AM: Okay, I’m going to fall where I sit if I don’t get over to my bedroom and go to sleep.  So I’m going there right now.  Take care, and look for more content in ten hours or less.  Good night.

    Pending Appointments And Issues

    1. Friday, 2010-01-15 @ 1:30 PM: Appointment with her PCP.  DONE.  Sister Jojo will drive us.  Ask the PCP for the following items:
      1. A new prescription for a 90-day supply of gabapentin 300 MG caps, taken twice a day.
      2. A blood test to see if Mom has a vitamin D deficiency.
      3. Ask if she still needs to be on so much furosemide.  Now, with her stronger heart, she may need less these days.
    2. Friday, 2010-01-22 @ 2:30 PM: Appointment with her eye doctor.
    3. Wednesday, 2010-04-14 @ 11:10 AM: Appointment with orthopedist for the next quarterly checkup on the progress of healing of her charcot foot.
    4. Friday, 2010-04-23 @ 02:00 PM: Appointment with PCP for quarterly checkup.

08:40 AM: Dispensed Mom’s morning meds, including the 40 units of N insulin.

08:45 AM: Blood sugar: 292.  Covered with 22 units of log insulin.

11:00 AM: Covered Mom’s lunch with 15 units of log insulin.

02:35 PM: Blood sugar: 124.  Covered with 6 units of log insulin.

02:30 PM: We learned or accomplished the following at Mom’s PCP visit:

    • He approved the higher doses (40 units, twice per day) of N insulin.  This is now her routine dose.
    • He also suggested that we could raise the N dose more if her fasting blood sugar values do not stay consistently below 120.
    • His office ordered a new prescription of gabapentin.
    • He tentatively recommends that she take 2000 IU of vitamin D daily, as most of his diabetic patients do this.  However we will not implement this until she has blood work drawn to confirm lower-than-normal vitamin D levels.  That should happen the next time the home nurse comes next week.
    • He authorized us to cut out one of her two doses daily of furosemide, as there is no evidence of swelling in her feet these days.  She currently takes 40 MG, twice per day.  Cutting her back to 40 MG, once per day.  If the edema returns, we can just resume the current dosing to counter.
    • Scheduled her next quarterly follow-up appointment with her PCP, which is on Friday, April 23rd, at 2:00 PM.

06:00 PM: Dispensed Mom’s evening meds.

06:03 PM: She’s quite tired and does not wish to take her blood sugar at this time.  *sigh*

10:00 PM: Blood sugar: 213.  Covered this and her night snack with 18 units of log insulin.

    10:05 PM: Dispensed Mom’s night-time meds.
