Log

06:45 AM: I’m up.  My weight stayed the same as yesterday, at 175.0 pounds.

07:30 AM: Listened to KYW News Radio on the iPod Touch.

07:45 AM: I’m still sleepy.  So I think I’ll lay back down for an hour or so; a sort of morning nap.

09:15 AM: I’m back up, and the first of the two Biddeford electric blanket controllers worked very well throughout the night.  This one has an analog dial; not digital, and you can set the temperature lower than you can with their digital controls.  With their digital boxes, the lowest setting (1 of 10) is still too warm for me.  But with the more traditional dial knob style box, you can go below 1 a little, and that’s just enough to get the blanket down to just the right warmth level for me.  I’d like to find more of these dial controls and give one to [Emmy] for her blankets, as they’re easier for a person with vision problems to work than the digital controls.

09:55 AM: Accompanying Mom to her doctors appointment.  I’ll return in an hour or so.

11:20 AM: I’m back, and updating Mom’s med sheet per the PCP’s instructions.

11:45 AM: Mom’s med sheet has been updated.  Also, her next PCP appointment has been moved, so I’m updating her appointment list to reflect this.

12:15 PM: The snow has begun falling within the past half-hour; the leading edge of the next big winter storm forecast for today and into tomorrow I suspect.

01:30 PM: Sent in the monthly rent payment for my storage shed, returned that second copy of the Mainstream Radio CD to Promo Only, and took the garbage to the parking lot before the snow accumulation gets too high.  We have an inch of new-fallen snow so far today.

03:15 PM: Looks like the snow has stopped falling for the moment.

03:30 PM: Watched the 2010-01-16 through 2010-01-19 episodes of   NBC’s Nightly News  show on the DVR.

05:15 PM: The snow just began falling again; very big flakes and coming down pretty hard.

05:30 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.  Heading out to shovel now.

05:55 PM: I’m back inside.  Cleared off another inch of snow, and helped Mom out to her ride to trivia.  I had planned on going but with the threat of more snow, I thought it best to stay here and clear the walkways again just prior to her getting back home.

06:40 PM: Created audio journal episode   AJE-2010-02-09-18-11;   a gripe-and-vent session.

07:20 PM: The last twenty remaining posts have been categorized in this, the   Tom’s Diary   blog.  Now, it’s off to work on categorizing all posts in the   Tom’s Love Quest   blog.

08:20 PM: Listened to Pandora and WOGL HD2 Philadelphia for some great 1970s oldies, on the iPod touch.  I like Pandora. You supply one song title you like. Then it creates an Internet radio station for you that plays music similar to the one you specified. Nice. They pick very good music that does indeed sound a lot like your original request.

08:35 PM: I think I’ll visit   [Emmy]  for a week or two in latter February.  I need a break, he said, in a mildly exasperated-sounding voice.

10:00 PM: Talked on the phone with [Emmy].

11:00 PM: Worked the   WPSBC Alumni Association Web Site Revamp   project.  The domain transfer is complete and it has been configured to point at the new blog version of the site. However, the domain changes will not become effective everywhere for a day or two.  So you still may see the old site when you access the http://wpsbc-alumni.org/ URL for a little while yet.

11:05 PM: Heading for bed now.  Enjoy your night, and I hope you’ll be back tomorrow to read more.

    Log

09:15 AM: Blood sugar: 168.  Covered with 12 units of log insulin.

09:20 AM: Dispensed Mom’s morning meds.

09:25 AM: Mom scheduled an appointment with her PCP for this morning.  She’s experienced more pain than usual the past several days, and I must discuss raising her dose of N insulin to 50 units, twice per day with him.  It appears that her body is developing a tolerance to insulin (if such a thing is possible), and I wish to learn if this might be happening to her.

11:05 AM: Aunt Joan and I just dropped Mom off at her dentist appointment.

11:45 AM: We got the following information from Mom’s PCP:

    • Raise her N insulin dose from 40 units twice per day to 45 units twice per day.
    • Raise her furosemide (lasix) dose from 40 MG twice per day to 80 MG twice per day.
    • Raise her potassium to 20 MEQ every day.  Until recently, she’d been taking 20 MEQ on just Momdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and 10 MEQ on all other days.  Now, she’ll take 20 MEQ every day, including weekends, to balance the extra furosemide she’s taking, until the edema goes away.
    • Add a third dose of gabapentin (neurontin) at 5:00 each afternoon to reduce the nerve pain she’s experienced lately.

12:30 PM: Mom’s back home again, and the snow is falling; the leading edge of the big snowstorm we’re getting later today.

    12:45 AM: Dispensed Mom’s lunch-time meds.

01:15 PM: Blood sugar: 168.  Covered with 8 units of log insulin.

05:35 PM: Dispensed Mom’s evening meds.

05:45 PM: Blood sugar: 143.  Covered with 8 units of log insulin.

08:30 PM: Covered Mom’s supper with 15 units of log insulin.
