Log

09:30 AM: I’m up. My weight stayed the same as yesterday, at 175.0 Lbs.    See   here for a summary of the progress on this goal so far in 2010.

10:30 AM: Asked Mom to order more log insulin.

01:50 PM: Created audio journal episode:  AJE-2010-03-17-13-32.

02:00 PM: Renamed my audio journal files so that all files (whether they were originally created on the Stream, iPod, digital recorder, or computer) have the same name format.  That format is:

AJE-<4-digit year>-<2 digit month>-<2 digit day>-<2-digit hour>-<2-digit minute> – Tom Hesley

The extension will vary, depending on which device originally created the file.

04:30 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

05:30 PM: Worked the   Storm Cleanup: 2010-03-13   project, some in the basement, and some outside.

06:00 PM: Heading out for Wednesday night   shopping.

07:30 PM: We’re back home.  Debbie and I just finished unloading and putting everything away.

10:00 PM: Listened to the last period of the Pens hockey game with [Emmy] on Internet radio.  The New Jersey Devils beat the Penguins (again).

11:15 PM: Uploaded audio journal episode   AJE-2002-01-03-21-40   from cassette tape to the computer.

11:25 PM: Posted the   Pap Jewell’s Birthday   piece.

12:00 AM: Read more of the   Team of Rivals   book.  Gosh, this is a long one.  :-)

12:05 AM: Time for bed again.  See you tomorrow.

    Pap Jewell’s Birthday

    Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

09:35 AM: It’s Pap Jewell’s birthday today.  Had he lived, he’d be 105 years old.  He died in 1977, and I can still hear his voice in my head, plain as day.  I hope I never forget it.

It’s also been severn years today, since I resigned my software engineering position.

I’d hoped to be further along in my writing career than I am.  However, I am encouraged by the steadily increasing bandwidth consumed on my blogs (averaging a hundred megabytes per day now, when it was just two or three megabytes per day, one year ago, when I started blogging in earnest).   I understand more about attracting readers, and so, I’m optimistic that the bandwidth will jump up another order of magnitude or two by this time next year.

To make that happen, I’ll not attempt to trick search engines into giving me higher ranking than I deserve.  Instead, I’ll just write more good prose about what people are searching for.  Sounds simple, and it probably is.  Indeed, there’s much in my head and journals that appears to be in demand.  It’s just a question of getting motivated to sit down and write it all out.

This year, I’m hoping to get my output up to a solid 2000 to 4000 words per day, and if I can manage that for a year or two, and do it about the subjects I most enjoy and know the most about, that successful career as a blogger will move into my grasping range, and Pap Jewell, God rest his soul, will be very pleased and proud.

    Happy birthday, Pap!
