Pap Jewell’s Birthday

09:35 AM: It’s Pap Jewell’s birthday today.  Had he lived, he’d be 105 years old.  He died in 1977, and I can still hear his voice in my head, plain as day.  I hope I never forget it.

It’s also been severn years today, since I resigned my software engineering position.

I’d hoped to be further along in my writing career than I am.  However, I am encouraged by the steadily increasing bandwidth consumed on my blogs (averaging a hundred megabytes per day now, when it was just two or three megabytes per day, one year ago, when I started blogging in earnest).   I understand more about attracting readers, and so, I’m optimistic that the bandwidth will jump up another order of magnitude or two by this time next year.

To make that happen, I’ll not attempt to trick search engines into giving me higher ranking than I deserve.  Instead, I’ll just write more good prose about what people are searching for.  Sounds simple, and it probably is.  Indeed, there’s much in my head and journals that appears to be in demand.  It’s just a question of getting motivated to sit down and write it all out.

This year, I’m hoping to get my output up to a solid 2000 to 4000 words per day, and if I can manage that for a year or two, and do it about the subjects I most enjoy and know the most about, that successful career as a blogger will move into my grasping range, and Pap Jewell, God rest his soul, will be very pleased and proud.

Happy birthday, Pap!

Tom
