Common Cold: 2010-03

Last week, eight days ago, Thursday to be exact, I noticed the symptoms of yet another cold coming on. Indeed, it felt just like the cold I contracted at [Emmy's] in February.  This is a real first because I’ve never gotten two colds so close together.  Some would argue in fact that it’s probably the same cold.  But I’m certain that I was symptom-free when I returned home on 2010-03-07.  In fact, I didn’t post this when the new symptoms arrived because I refused to believe it.  But after a week of sniffling, yellow mucus, and general malaise, there’s no denying that yet another real McCoy has befallen me.

This one, which I believe I got from Mom as soon as I returned from [Emmy's], ran the same course as the illness in February, and it might have even been a bit more severe; for the first several days, as I walked around, I felt sluggish, like I was swimming in molasses or I was depressed.  My legs and arms ached and were slow to respond.

I took the zinc drops again this time.  Perhaps they’re the reason these colds aren’t lasting as long as they typically do (three to five weeks in my case).  I took no other medicine however.  So the symptoms for this one may not have been as uncomfortable.

I’m glad that this one is fading, what with [Mentat] visiting this weekend.  I had a cold last March when he came; he’s going to think that I’m always sick.

Yes, I’ll have the doctor check my immune response and other blood values in June to make sure I’m not lacking any critical nutrients.

05:15 PM: That general, wiped-out feeling I usually get the first several days of a cold took an exceedingly long time to disappear with this one. It’s only in the past couple days that I’m feeling like my old self again. However, I’m stil coughing a little and I’m carrying around a nagging, stuffed nose. But like the last cold just four weeks ago, this one, once it began its retreat, is moving away quickly. Hopefully, I’ll feel a hundred percent again by mid week. :-) I’ll let you know.

10:55 AM: All symptoms of this cold have disappeared. Looks like this second cold of the calendar year took thirteen days to shake.
