Log

04:30 AM: I’m up. briefly, to read a little.

08:30 AM: My weight did not change from yesterday.  It’s still 173.5 Lbs.    See   here   for a summary of the progress on this goal so far in 2010.

08:35 AM: Began the book:  The Adventures of Pinocchio   overnight.

09:30 AM: Got nephew Garrett started on the   Basement Cleanup: 2010   project.

11:00 AM: Posted the   Alumni Bulletin: 2009   piece to the   WPSBC Alumni Association   web site.  Some extensive editing was required to get it to display in a pleasing manner.  But that’s complete and appears to have been well worth the effort.

01:30 PM: Called our local pharmacy and ordered four medicine refills for Mom.

03:40 PM: Recorded audio journal episode: AJE-2010-04-12-15-16.

04:30 PM: Skipped today’s   Dr. Phil  episode; it’s the Dr. Phil family again.

05:20 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless on the DVR.  Turns out that Sarah is Sheila’s sister, and she’s holding Lauren to avenge Sheila’s death; Lauren shot Sheila several years back.  It appears that Sarah is also Kevin and Daisy’s mom, although Kevin said today that Sheila is not their mother.  Well, that seems true enough.  But did he mean Sarah?  Hmmmm.  Meanwhile, the police are searching the homes of all who held Adam in the Abbott cabin, looking for clues to who killed Adam.

07:00 PM: There appears to be a brush fire in progress on the west side of Brush Mountain.  So some of us neighbors congregated in the lot just south of here to watch.  An airplane circled; repeatedly dropping flame retardant.  Some runs he would not drop the load and we figured that on these passes, he decided that he was either too high or too low, or that the wind was blowing too much.

07:15 PM: [Emmy] called to say that she’s under the weather with stomach pains.  I’ll check back later to see how she’s doing.

07:30 PM: Posted the   Cooking Under Fire  piece to the   WPSBC Alumni Association   web site for Ellen Goldfon.

07:40 PM: Posted the  Jenny Kaywood’s Broiled Bananas   piece to the   WPSBC Alumni Association   web site, also for Ellen.

07:45 PM: Posted the  Nancy Goldfon’s Super Coleslaw   piece to the   WPSBC Alumni Association   web site, again, for Ellen.

10:00 PM: Talked with [Emmy].  She’s feeling somewhat better.  But now, she’s not tired, and wonders when tonight she’ll actually be able to fall asleep.

10:45 PM: A little blog maintenance activity over the past half hour or so.

10:50 PM: I think I’m heading off to read for a little while, and then to bed.  So enjoy your night, and I hope you’ll come back here tomorrow for further updates.

Title: The Adventures of Pinocchio

Author: Carlo Collodi

Reading Time:

I’ve been aware of key parts of this story since early childhood; how Pinocchio’s nose grows each time he tells a lie.  I may have seen bits and pieces of the Disney movie as well.  But never have I read the whole book.  Well, that will change in the next couple days.  They had it on the BARD site and I downloaded it to one of these new cartridges for the NLS DTB players I purchased this past February.  In my quest to make up for the literary shortfalls created in school by spending too many study halls out on the playground instead of reading, this is one of the many shorter but classic tales I hope to digest this year.

    Basement Cleanup: 2010

    Monday, April 12th, 2010

With the recent flood threat last month, and the removal of many items to the first floor from the cellar (to keep them away from the waters that we thought might come in but did not this time, thank goodness), our basement is pretty empty at the moment (relatively speaking).  So, Mom deemed this a great time to have it scrubbed and bleached.  However these days, she cannot get down there to do the work herself, though she’s the one pushing hard to get this done. I wished not to do it alone, so as not to take so much time away from my writing, and my sisters weren’t much into the job either.  Besides, it’s a basement after all; not some dining hall that must be pristine.  So I see not the need to make it spotless.  Cleaning the whole thing will be a lot of work, that will require at least a few full days.  So for these reasons, I just couldn’t get my heart into doing the bulk of that particular job by myself. :-)

So, we’ve contracted nephew Garrett to scrub the floors (the entire floor) and he began that work this morning. This means unloading the many shelves down there, pulling them out, sweeping underneath them, and then scrubbing the floors and lower parts of the walls.  We’ve also requested that he wash behind all appliances, to get up any leftover debris and mess from the flood of 2004. Then, while he’s at it, he can excise the cobwebs hanging from the beams and walls.

I will supervise and guide him with the hope that this be completed by the end of the week.  We’d like to move everything back down to the cellar and get it organized as soon as practical; at the moment, I’m having to step over all that junk to reach my files in the first floor office; not good.  So since I couldn’t talk Mom out of doing this, I am quite anxious to get it finished.   Of course I feel less rebellious about this since Garrett will work the most difficult parts of the job.  :-)

I’ll track our progress in the comments below.
