Log

06:30 AM: My weight did not change from yesterday.  It’s still 173.5 Lbs.    See   here   for a summary of the progress on this goal so far in 2010.

07:00 AM: Read more of the book:   Happiness Now    overnight.

08:15 AM: [Emmy] called to say that she’s having her kitchen cabinets replaced today; a day or two earlier than expected.  So she’s rushing about, emptying her old cabinets prior to the arrival of the contractors.

09:00 AM: Watched the 2010-03-15 episode of   Dr. Phil   on the DVR.  I was surprised that it worked well this morning.  Actually, the DVR plays all programs recorded prior to a few days ago just fine.  It’s only the ones captured since around last Thursday or Friday that are riddled with annoying pauses and grid-like images sporadically appearing in them. So I’ll try and watch all that older stuff before calling for a replacement.  But, I’ll have to watch The Young and the Restless  live today and every day until the new DVR is installed.  So I’ll be   “marathoning”   with the television the next few days to watch the remaining sixty hours of recorded programs.

09:45 AM: Skipped the 2010-04-16 episode of Dr. Phil; it appears to be a rerun.

09:45 AM: Watched the 2010-03-17  episode of   Dr. Phil,  on the injustice of releasing violent offenders back into society, only to have them commit more violent crimes.  The show focused on convicted serial killer Rodney Alcala, offering him up as a prime example of this unfortunate and dangerous vulnerability that shows up way too often in our justice system.

10:30 AM: Watched the 2010-03-19 episode of  Dr. Phil, that discussed the proliferation of rude behavior in public these days.  They brought in a few rudely-behaving people to figure them out a little, and offered suggestions to the rest of us   (:-)), on how to tolerate these obnoxious souls.

10:35 AM: Skipped the 2010-03-22 episode of  Dr. Phil, as it’s about mothers, obsessed with creating stars out of their children.  McGraw has dealt with this topic numerous times before, and this subject interests me not much.

11:40 AM: Watched the 2010-03-23 episode of   Dr. Phil, on backstabbing friends.  Covered the scenarios where you have a very long-time best friend that suddenly appears to betray you.

01:30 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless.  Hmmmmm.  It’s been a while since I watched this live; commercials and all.  I miss the DVR already.

01:40 PM: Skimmed the 2010-03-26 episode of   Dr. Phil.  This was an ”Ask Dr. Phil” show that I realized about two thirds the way in that I’d already seen before.

02:30 PM: Watched the 2010-03-30 episode of   Dr. Phil; titled:  Are Moms Really That Busy?  The topic involved a study that suggested that women raising children actually have thirty to forty hours of leisure time more than they think.  Needless to say, this stirred quite a controversy, and McGraw had a few women to refute this claim, along with the author of the study.  Good show.

02:50 PM: Recorded audio journal episode:   AJE-2010-04-19-14-33.

04:00 PM: Chatted with therapist.

05:45 PM: Watched the 2010-04-13 episode of   Dr. Phil;  anodther  Ask Dr. Phil  show.

06:30 PM: Watched the 2010-04-14 episode of   Dr. Phil;  titled: Crisis in Family Court.  With two more stories of injustice gone a muck in the justice system in general, McGraw talks to a few women who attempted to protect their children from domestic violence.  But the judges did not listen to them, would not impose protective orders, and subsequently, the children were murdered by their fathers.  Heart wrenching and angering at the same time.

07:30 PM: Watched the 2010-04-16 episode of Dr. Phil; titled: Dating and Married to Distraction.  In this show, McGraw explored the pluses and minuses of online social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and others.  One woman asserted that these sites ruin otherwise healthy relationships; I don’t believe her however.  As someone countered, that’s like saying that guns kill people.  But guns don’t kill people.  People kill people.

07:32 PM: Skipped today’s episode of Dr. Phil, as it was about the Dr. Phil family.  I wonder when he’s going to put that series to bed?  Thus, I’m all caught up on Dr. Phil episodes, and the DVR now stands at 50% full.

09:05 PM: Watched the 2010-03-09, 2010-03-11, 2010-03-12, and 2010-03-13 episodes of   NBC’s Nightly News.

10:20 PM: Talked with [Emmy] on the phone.  They finished installing her cabinets today and she’s wiped them out and begun loading them up with her stuff.  With at least two additional cabinets over what she had before, she’ll be hard pressed (for a little while at least) to fill them all up.  But that probably won’t take long, American consumer that she is.  :-)

10:22 PM: Now, I think I’ll go read that   Happiness Now   book some more.  But I didn’t want to leave without noting that it looks like Google Analytics is up and running now for all my sites, and statistics are coming in each day.  This package gives more detailed data about visitors (region they’re from, how long they stay on the sites, how many pages they request, and so on).  So I’m hoping this will provide a better picture of my consumer base, and suggest ways to better target my content.

Wow.   Statistics.  I feel like I’m working in software engineering again.  :–)

11:10 PM: Well, it’s time once more to bid you a fond farewell.  Bed time.  So I’m going to get there now; another TV day tomorrow, so I can get this DVR cleared off before exchanging it for a new one.  Plus, I’d like to read chapter four in the   Happiness Now   book as well.  So, it should be a briskly busy day tomorrow.  Enjoy your night, and I’ll see you then.  Take care.

Tom

The noteworthy trend for the past several days is that the host served count over the past seven days (line 16) in the below table has fallen sharply.  While it’s still not as low as it was prior to when the upsurge began nearly two weeks ago, I hope it doesn’t completely fall back to around 500.  In that case, that would mean that registering my sites with lots of search engines and directories had little long term positive effect on traffic.

Interesting that the bandwidth in the past seven days (line 19) has fallen as well; although yesterday pushed it back up over 1 GB.  I expected this to rise, as I’ve made some content adjustments to all pages that result in more data being downloaded per page request (added the link sidebar to all single post pages).  I’m eager to see if the increase since my changes will be permanent.
