Today’s Activities

  • Shower.  DONE.
  • Cat duty.   DONE.
  • Lions Club meeting.  DONE.

Log

07:00 AM: I’m up.

07:05 AM: Read more of the      book overnight.

08:40 AM: Wrote 300 words so far today into upcoming posts.

09:15 AM: Showered and called [Emmy].  She’s awake and watching the  Pittsburgh Today Live   show on KDKA TV 2.

11:10 AM: It’s a beautiful day.  The sun is coming out and it appears that this afternoon is going to be sunny, warm, and dry.  I’ll walk up to the Lions Club meeting this evening, and then listen to the Penguins game with [Emmy] after that.

11:20 AM: My weight held steady since yesterday.  It’s still 176.5 Lbs.  See   here   for a summary of the progress on this goal so far in 2010.

11:30 AM: Created audio journal episode:  AJE-2010-05-06-11-12,   where I’m brainstorming about avoiding needless rejections.   I’ve found that whenever I’m having difficulty writing a post, it’s likely because I’ve written something into it that I either do not fully believe myself, or I lack sufficient understanding to write about it.  So when I these so-called writers blocks, I often “retreat” from them, into reading some good books.  Sometime that helps while I must wait, months sometimes, for the proper insights to emerge in my thoughts in order to finish the post.

12:30 PM: Struggled with the screws in a broken leg on a yard bench.  The leg, held by the screws, has cracked right down the middle.  However, the screws are frozen tight.  I sprayed lubricant on them and so far, managed to get one of the eight out.  They’re made of a hardened metal.  So drilling them out is probably not an option.  Hmmmmm.

12:40 PM: Heading to a customer’s place to help her install some antivirus software on her computer.  Back later.

02:00 PM: I’ve returned from the customer’s house.  Installed fifteen updates on her computer as well as the Verizon Internet Security Suite.  No problems encountered.  Unfortunately, she had to get ready for work.  So we had not enough time to locate some pictures she’d recently uploaded to the machine.  Nor did we get her printer set up.  We’ll do this next time.

02:15 PM: Nephew Garrett dug out the old flower bed (to flatten out the dirt there), and he raked up the twiggs and branches from those late winter and early spring storms.  Looks good out there now.  He’s coming back tomorrow to rake the west yards.

03:20 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

03:30 PM: Nap time, with CNN playing in the background.

05:00 PM: I’m up again.  Didn’t sleep really.  CNN’s Rick Sanchez did not allow much sleep; too many breaking stories going on, what with the stock market plummet, the Gulf oil spill, and the foiled Time Square bombing being discussed.  I never did fall completely asleep.

05:30 PM: Spent a half-hour on Facebook.  I now have exactly one hundred friends.  Woo hoo!  :-)   Now, I’m off to the Lions Club meeting.  Back later.

07:55 PM: Back from the Lions Club meeting.  They held elections for the new fiscal year’s officers, and we enjoyed a turkey dinner with coconut cream pie for dessert.  Now, I have [Emmy] on the phone, and we’re listening to the Penguins game.

09:40 PM: the Pens lost, 3 to 2.

11:15 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   NBC’s Nightly News.

01:00 AM: Watched the 2010-05-05 and 2010-05-06 episodes of   Dr. Phil   on the DVR.

01:05 AM: Bed.  So, good night.  Tomorrow.

Facebook Tid Bits: 2010-05-06

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

07:18 AM: All my blogs are written in PHP (WordPress). A lot like PERL and Java, which I already knew. So adapting to PHP was pretty easy for me.

12:30 PM: Well, it seems that we agree that AZ’s measures [new immigration law] were indeed drastic.

05:18 PM: Hard question. But, if she really wants to go out with YOU, you’ll know, and any awkwardness when you consider asking will disappear. If not, the uncertainty will remain. So in short, as long as it feels awkward or anxious, don’t ask, because she’ll probably reject you anyway. The conscience is pretty good at predicting rejection, and you’d be … See Morewell-advised to heed it when it’s squeamish. I would not ask until you know FOR CERTAIN that she’s free and clear to navigate a new dating relationship.

08:39 PM: Well, this is Facebook. Social conventions differ here from tradition. So what the heck? If you’re not anxious about asking, then by all means, ask her out.

08:47 PM: Remember the Sheetz BFD mugs?

09:04 PM: I think I still have that black “Get Bombed” flask around here somewhere.

09:30 PM: Yep, I don’t think I’ve had Beam in 22 years. Quit drinking altogether in 2003. So all those good but foggy memories will remain just that; memories. :-)

09:50 PM: I hosted a couple Zets parties but not many. We couldn’t get too loud in the building I occupied at the time; a real problem for the Zets. Being quiet really cramped our style, no?

10:07 PM: Writers block today; only managed around 800 words. But kept busy with household chores and repairs, reading, talking on here, helping a computer customer, attending a Lions club meeting, TV news, and revising blog posts (22 of them today). Revision is never done I’m finding. :-)

10:45 PM: I visited Sorrento’s Pizza a year or so ago. At that time, they were still in business. But one of the owners said that they’re gearing up to retire in the next couple of years. So, like the Atwood street post office, Sorrento’s may soon disappear into oblivion. :-(

11:45 PM: Anyone ever hear from SkateRat, Flash, Pumpkin, or Oakes these days? I remember SkateRat MCing the 1988 bankwet, and Noise printing up the programs with his advanced Mac skills (before Windows). :-) Remember the Xerox 8700 laser printer in OEH? One of several hangout spots for 1980s Zets.
