Weekly Backups: 2010-05-08

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Weekly backups of all my blog sites completed.

  • Databases size: 14.4 MB.  That’s up 700 KB from 13.7 MB last week.  This is a new record high; the more posts and comments, the higher this number grows.
  • Total data backed up: 81.6 MB.  That’s down  3300 KB from 84.9 MB last week, because automatic processes have compressed the older log files durin the past week.  Note that this figure includes all databases, site code, static pages, and log files. The record amount of total data saved in a weekly backup is still 84.9 MB.

09:45 AM: Well, being who you are is probably good advice, and saying what you feel can be, if your words are positive.  But if negative, you’re usually better off keeping quiet because, often, those who would mind, DO in fact, MATTER; bosses, family members, lovers, children, benefactors, and so on.  Life can get very complicated and lonely when what you say hurts others’ feelings.  Sure, it’s nice when people accept us unconditionally, no matter what we say to them.  But such folks are rare; most will eventually object to brashness.  Thus, you can’t avoid the need to watch your tongue and consider how what you wish to say might hurt others, before saying it.  IMHO.  :-)

11:47 AM: Well, as someone who has lived in fourteen dwellings in four different cities in his adult life, I can tell you that a new place does not typically solve old blues (at least not all of them); unless it’s a really good spot of course.  :-)   Usually though, as you know, once the “novelty” of a fresh location dissipates, it starts feeling just like everywhere else; laden with life’s concerns, problems, and boredom.  However, I’m not suggesting that moving in order to become happier is futile.  Sometimes, relocating does indeed lift our spirits over the long haul, as my move from Dayton to Philadelphia did for me, and then my move from Philly to Altoona did a few years later.  :-)   In fact, I’m happier here than in any of my previous living quarters, and hope I never have to move again.  So it may take several moves for you to find your “dream house” and in fact, you may have to move around for a while, just to figure out what you really want in a neighborhood.  Thus moving is good, if you can afford it.  Just be advised that you may have to move around a lot before you really find “home.”

12:56 PM: Nasty thing about goals: If you don’t choose them with great care, they can box you in and undermine rather than facilitate your happiness. They can make you too inflexible and lead you places where you really didn’t want to reach. While it’s true that goals are useful at times, and necessary at others, we should avoid setting too many, and keep away from those with a time horizon of greater than five years. Otherwise, we live for dreams that will likely never come true. — I’m feeling DEEP today. :-)
