10:05 AM: Facebooked a while this morning.  Friend count is now 240.  My official Facebook page I created Friday now has 30 fans.

11:00 AM: Checked the box trap at the shed.  Nothing today.  I wonder what I should bait the trap with in order to attract groundhogs?

12:15 PM: Mailed out three memorials on behalf of the   WPSBC Alumni Association;  for recently-deceased members.

12:55 PM: Just completed the treasurers report for tonight’s   WPSBC Alumni Association   meeting.

02:30 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

04:00 PM: We napped a little while and then watched   CNN’s Rick Sanchez   news show.

05:00 PM: Lingered at the pavilion in the sun.  A trifle cool for a pavilion day, but the bright sun easily overcame the chill in the air.

08:40 PM: Just finished up with the   WPSBC Alumni Association   board meeting.  We’re now ready for the convention this August.

11:00 PM: Watched   Larry King Live   and   AC 360.  Now, it’s bed time.  See you tomorrow.

10:00 AM: I’m up.

10:05 AM: Facebooked a while this morning.  Friend count is now 238.  My official Facebook page I created Friday now has 26 fans.

12:00 PM: Went out to the shed to check the box trap.  It held a brown and white rabbit; but not the ground hog that we’ve been trying to catch; the one that keeps digging big holes underneath the shed.  So, I let the rabbit go and reset the trap.  Maybe tonight, we’ll get him.

01:00 PM: Broke a pair of glasses while tussling with [Emmy].  I wasn’t too dismayed however, as this particular pair is in need of a new anti-reflective coating, and so were due for a shop visit anyhow.  I have three other spare pairs; so, no biggie.  :-)

02:55 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

05:30 PM: Watched various left-over shows on the DVR that I’d recorded for [Emmy] over the past couple weeks.

05:45 PM: Headed out to trivia night with Mom and [Emmy].

09:00 PM: On the way home, we hit The Meadows for some sugar-free vanilla ice cream.

09:15 PM: Then, we stopped at sister Jojo’s to see the puppies one more time before she dispatches them to their new owners.  They’ve really grown but are all still quite soft.

10:00 PM: We’re back home again.

11:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   CNN’s AC 360   news show; mostly focused on the oil spill.

11:15 PM Bed time now.  So good night, and catch you again tomorrow.  Take care.

Received Mail and Shipments

  • Weekly newspaper-style coupon mailer.
  • Promo Only’s EADFF music series; the 2010-06-04 issue.
  • Misc. credit card offer.  No thanks.
  • Blair Senior Services, Senior Scope publication.
  • Information on the new Pitney Bowes mailstation2.  Neat machine, the weights packages and envelopes, and then prints the appropriate postage either on them or for them.  This is a glorified postage meter (the glorification being the built in scale).  I’ve debated over getting one of these.  But though we send out fifteen to twenty pieces of mail each month, that’s probably not enough to justify this machine.  Now if I sent forty or fifty pieces, this sale would be easier for them to make to me.  They are making the offer pretty enticing, with $20 in free postage coupons for two years, and the first two months rent free.  But I must be critical of any additional recurring monthly expenses right now.  In short, any monthly bill greater than zero dollars and zero cents, I can’t take on — not until the writing business does better.

09:00 AM: I’m up.

10:05 AM: Facebooked a while this morning.  Friend count is now 233.  My official Facebook page I created Friday now has 25 fans.

10:15 AM: Filled Mom’s medicine trays for the next three weeks.  No meds require reordering this week.

03:45 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

04:55 PM: Watched the 2010-05-31 episode of   Dr. Phil   on the DVR.

06:00 PM: Watched   KDKA TV News at Five   with [Emmy].  Interesting Consumer Reports story they reported about mattresses.  They said that regardless of how much you spend, all mattresses have essentially the same quality of construction and thus, the same level of comfort.  Some people found the more expensive ones more comfortable while others liked the cheaper ones.  They ducked the question of which mattresses are the best by saying that comfort is a highly personal thing.  But they found no evidence that the more expensive bedding is any more comfortable to more people.  So they recommended finding a mattress that you prefer, and then haggling with the sales person to get it or waiting for it to go on sale.  Good story.

07:00 PM: We just finished supper; which consisted of steak salads from Sheetz with ranch dressing.  Yum!

07:30 PM: Watched the   CBS Evening News.  Erica Hill was at the anchor desk.  I miss seeing her and Anderson Cooper together on CNN’s AC 360.  Hopefully, she’ll get back on there soon.

07:35 PM Nap time.

09:00 PM: I’m back up.  Had some disconcerting dreams during the nap that I’m not even sure how to describe.  Rather than sights or sounds, these dreams consisted of just feelings.  I saw nothing, and heard no one.  But I felt them.  Take that feeling you used to get as a child when you rode a ride at an amusement park for the first time, or when you were riding home after a mid-fall football game.   To me, each of these activities offers a distinct set of feelings.  I even get different emotional impressions for the same experience at different times in my life.  E.g. Riding the push merry-go-round at school in the spring of 1973, and doing it in the fall of 1976, each has its own unique feelings.  Sometimes, I remember experiences like these more by the emotions they invoke rather than what I saw, heard, or smelled while experiencing them, and every so often when I dream, all I get are the feelings.  This is strange but a curious thing as well.

11:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   NBC’s Nightly News   as well as the first quarter of   CNN’s AC 360.  Plus, we deleted several rerun episodes of Dr. Phil   from the DVR, as [Emmy] and I both have already seen them.  Yep, it’s rerun time now, during the summer.

11:52 AM: Yes, that’s true. There’s nothing more frustrating than having a discussion with someone who knows not what they know not. :-) In that situation, I don’t even bother trying to teach them; unless of course, they’re a boss or something. Then, it becomes necessary to cope with the ignorance. Grrrrrrrrr.

04:45 PM: I got notified by [a big appliance store in Philadelphia] like that once when I ordered an entertainment stand. When I got there, they told me that I’d already picked the thing up. Well, we went around and around; to the point where the sales person and I were shouting at each other. I then called their main headquarters, and they instructed the store manager where I bought the unit to give me a new one; pronto. Then, when I went back again to finally get the furniture, that manager wouldn’t even speak to me; just stuck her nose in thei air and walked away while her subordinates carried it to the car. That happened back in 2001 and I never bought anything from them again; at least, not until this past February when I purchased my iPod Touch. Still though, they lost much business from me because of that fiasco in Philly.

09:41 PM: I think that books by self-described “average-looking” guys on how to seduce beautiful women, would be more believable if those fellows would include pictures of themselves. They rarely do however. That and their misleading tactics of trickery virtually destroys their credibility. Sure, they’re fun to read. But most  offer little practical value IMHO. Hmmmm. The things people say to make a buck. :-)

10:00 AM: I’m up.

10:15 AM: Facebooked a while this morning.  Friend count is now 231.  My official Facebook page I created Friday has 22 fans so far.

11:20 AM: Recorded audio journal episode   AJE-2010-06-27-10-50.

12:00 AM: [Emmy] called to say that she just left for the train here.

12:55 PM: Blocked certain advertisement types from displaying on my sites.  The hope is that this will cause more relevant ads to run when people view my pages, and so, entice them more to click them to see what they’re about.  :-)   I don’t see any way to control what ads display in a particular ad unit however.  So the changes I’ve made will affect all my blogs.  I would have preferred to be able to regulate on a per-blog basis which ads appear.  But I can live with this.

01:30 PM: Tidied up the kitchen and made a batch of Jello with cream cheese with a little half & half.  Dismayed I was however to find that freezing cream cheese alters its texture and color significantly.  The frozen-then-thawed stuff is very clumpy (like fetta cheese), does not spread as easily, and it’s more yellow in color (less white).  It still tastes great and once it completely melts in the Jello, the difference will not be noticable I predict.  But still, the frozen stuff would not work on bagels very well.  So I think I’ll avoid freezing it as a general rule.

03:00 PM: Red up the bedroom and made the bed, in preps for [Emmy's] visit later today.  89.5 degrees outside the window here and I’m starting to feel the heat now here in the office.

03:15 PM: Leaving now to pick up [Emmy].  Back later.

04:30 PM: Several family members were pool-side at sister Christine’s.  So we had nephew Garrett drive us there, where we enjoyed some potato chips, cool water, and nice company.

05:45 PM: We’re home now.

07:45 PM: Nap time.

08:45 PM: I’m awake again.  We ate some of the cream cheese Jello I made earlier.   Well, its texture is definitely different when you use frozen-then-thawed creeam cheese.  It isn’t bad really; just different.

09:30 PM: Facebooked a while and filled them in on Mom’s status.  She’s doing well; though they don’t know what’s wrong still, even after the tests they ran on Saturday.  But they did recommend physical therapy.  Hopefully, that will strengthen her heart enough that she can walk at least short distances without becoming winded.

11:00 PM: Listened to Internet radio on my iPod Touch.  Since I moved my WAP (WiFi Access Point) into the attic in order to gain better WiFicoverage at the pavilion, I’m concerned that it’s exposed to too much heat.  It really gets hot in there; even with the exhaust fan running full-tilt; especially on 90-degree days like today.  Nonetheless, I experienced no problems with the WAP, as it has a built-in fan to help keep it cool.  Perhaps I’m worrying for nothing however, because the WAP has resided in the attic now for a few months, and it’s still going strong.  Next time I have to buy one, I’ll get a WAP that’s designed for outdoor use and mount it outside.  That’ll keep it cool.  :-)

12:30 AM: Just got a Twitter account.  Check me out and say hello at  http://twitter.com/Tom_Hesley/

01:00 AM: Well, I’m leaving for tonight and heading for bed.  So take care and I’ll write again tomorrow.  Good night.
