Log

08:55 AM: I’m up.

10:00 AM: Mom reports that calls on  her phone sound garbled.  So I investigated and determined that not all calls sound bad; only ones to certain numbers. Sometimes, even the ones that sounded lousy the first time, sounded very clear when placed a few minutes later.   This suggests that at least, we have nothing wrong with our wiring or our cable phone modem, and this is further corroborated by the fact that I observed the same behavior on my line.  This seems to be a network issue, and not anything specific to our installation.  So, all we can do I suspect, is to let the cable company know about this, and hopefully they’ll track it down and resolve it.

12:00 PM: So far, I’ve written 1000 of the 2500 words today that I’ve mandated myself to put down.

01:00 PM: [Jack] returned my birthday call to him from yesterday.  All is well in Philadelphia.  He says that they moved the location of the foot party.  Though for a time, he was the only male there, he very much enjoyed himself.  Now, they host them in the far north east.

02:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

05:35 PM: Posted the   Judy’s Silent Rejection   piece to the   Tom’s Love Quest   blog.  Thus, all data have been transcribed from audio journal episode   AJE-2010-05-31-21-52.

08:00 PM: Napped a bit while listening to CNN, and considered what to write next.  I’ll probably dig into the audio journals again, as they’re a nearly endless source of inspiration and content.

10:10 PM: Talked with [Emmy] on the phone.

11:50 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of   NBC’s Nightly News   on the DVR as well as the monologue section of the   David Letterman   show.

12:40 AM: Watched the 2010-06-07 episode of the  Dr. Phil   show on the DVR; that exposed the difficult problem of childhood violence.

01:45 AM: Blogged and Facebooked a bit, and now, I’m going to bed for a bit.  So I’ll see you again tomorrow.  Good night.

Facebook Tid Bits: 2010-06-07

10:30 AM: Try setting up a Facebook celebrity page to overcome Facebook’s 5000 friend limit. What have you got to lose? Those pages aren’t hard to create. Plus, given your apparent success in this venue, that approach will probably work well for you too. The odds are in your favor. So go for it. :-)
10:32 AM: Sometimes you can do what you think you can, depending on your gifts. But other times, you can’t. Interesting how those with lots of blessings think they CAN more than those less favored by circumstance and destiny. Indeed, there’s much more to CANNING than simply believing you can, though I admit that a healthy positive attitude is a great start.
10:45 AM: It appears though that far more people DO NOT achieve their dreams than who do; at least half of all marriages fail within five years, over three quarters of all start-up business collapse, dropout rates in college are way greater than zero, and over eighty percent of people are unhappy in their jobs. So it seems that most, who start out believing they CAN, wind up discovering that in fact they CANNOT. Yes, believing you can achieve something is indeed a NECESSARY condition for accomplishing it; but not a SUFFICIENT one.
10:50 AM:  Yes, thinking that we can and knowing that we can are not the same.
11:00 AM: So, a blind man wants more than anything to fly solo in a twin engine plane. Would you encourage him to go for it?  Or, would you tell him that perhaps he should find a more realistic dream to chase? My point: We humans do have limitations, and simply thinking that we can overcome them does not make it so. Far from it.  While we should not allow our limitations to defeat us before we even get to the starting gate, a candid assessment of our limitations keeps us from wasting time in pursuits that in all likelihood, will never bear any fruit.
03:58 PM:   I so miss drive-in theaters. We used to have one right up the road. But now, a grocery store sits there. :-(   But it’s great to hear that some still exist.
01:20 AM: Busy day but thrilled. Beat yesterday’s 2500 word mandate, and penned over 3300 words. More, more more! Then, I followed the oil spill, engaged in healthy debate on FB, investigated some garbled phone problems (I think it was just a busy Internet resulting in insufficient bandwidth for the phones for this morning), caught up with one Philly friend, and for fun, I watched Y&R and David Letterman’s monologue. Tomorrow: Bills, yard, laundry, and lots of revisions. Good night.
