Log

08:30 AM: I’m up.

11:15 AM: Facebooked for a bit, and in the process, wrote the   Driving While Using Cell Phones   piece for the   Tom’s Views   blog.

02:00 PM: Updated [Emmy's] copy of my important computer files and returned the hard drive to her.  Friends provide a handy way of keeping backups of my computers “off site.”

02:40 PM: [Emmy] and I walked to Sheetz for some steak subs for lunch and to get some money from the ATM for [Emmy's] trip.

03:45 PM: Nephew Garrett arrived to take [Emmy] to the train back to Pittsburgh.

04:15 PM: We departed for the Altoona train station.

05:20 PM: We escorted [Emmy] onto the train and said good bye.

06:00 PM: I’m back home again.  Now, I think I’ll Facebook for a while.

07:00 PM: Added more content to the   Driving While Using Cell Phones   piece for the   Tom’s Views   blog.

07:55 PM: Watched the 2010-05-23 rerun episode of CBS’s   60 Minutes   news show on the DVR.

08:10 PM: Skipped the 2010-05-30 and 2010-0t6-13 rerun episodes of CBS’s   60 Minutes   news show.  I’ve seen these already.

09:30 PM: Spent an hour repairing broken links on the   Tom’s Diary   blog.

11:30 PM: Recorded audio journal episode   AJE-2010-08-01-22-14.

12:55 AM: Skimmed the 2010-06-27 rerun episode of CBS’s   60 Minutes   news show, and watched the story on the Avitar movie.

01:00 AM: Skipped the 2010-07-11 rerun episode of CBS’s   60 Minutes   news show although I did enjoy Andy Rooney’s piece about all the papers and other memorabilia that he keeps but never looks at.   He gives me a chuckle every week, even in reruns.

01:20 AM: Skipped the 2010-07-18 rerun episode of CBS’s   60 Minutes   news show although I did enjoy Andy Rooney’s piece about all the kitchen tools he keeps but never never uses.   Again, makes me chuckle every week, even in reruns.  :-)

01:28 AM: Skipped the 2010-07-25 rerun episode of CBS’s   60 Minutes   news show although I did enjoy Andy Rooney’s call to the medical establishment for an anti-desire pill.   Hmmm.  Perhaps Andy is a Buddhist.

01:40 AM: Skipped the 2010-08-01 rerun episode of CBS’s   60 Minutes   news show although I did enjoy Andy Rooney’s talk about his love of the newspaper.

03:30 AM: After debating this issue on Facebook for a couple hours, I added more content to the   Driving While Using Cell Phones   piece for the   Tom’s Views   blog.

03:35 AM: Now I’m heading to bed.  Though I should have been in there three hours ago, sometimes when a debate like the cell phone one heats up, I just can’t cool it down until I get so tired that I can’t think straight.  But I’ve reached that point now.  So I’d best get some rest, before I end up saying stupid things.  Besides, I want to be fully rested while visiting Mom tomorrow.  So good night and I’ll pick this up in less than ten hours.  Take care.

Mom’s Status: 2010-08-01

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

09: AM: Mom went to hospital in ambulance on Friday. Symptoms: Shortness of breath, fatigue, sleepiness. Low hemoglobin and blood pressure were discovered. So far, she’s received 2 units of blood. Internal bleeding found.  So they stopped her coumadin (blood thinner) for now until they rule out other causes.

Visited yesterday. Suster She feels better but is still weak. They think that the bleeding has stopped.  But upper and lower GI scopes are planned for early next week to rule out tumors and other lesions inside.

We took her cell phone cable to her.

Facebookers: Forgive the delayed post. But I wanted to wait until sisters returned from vacation, at Mom’s request.  Now that they’re home, I’m sharing.

10:00 AM: Mom called to say that she experienced a drop in blood sugar this morning (53 was the reading).  However, she’s recovering but is very cold.  So she asked for a sweater the next time someone goes to visit her.  Sister Jojo is going up in an hour or two.

01:00 PM: Sister Jojo called to say that she has visited Mom and though her blood sugar is at normal levels again, she still feels shaky and cold.  The nurses are investigating.

05:00 PM: Sisters Christine and Diane report that Mom is being moved to ICU and that she’s very sleepy.  So nephew Garrett and I will not visit her this evening.

09:00 PM: Mom has been moved from a private room to ICU. She’s developed a temperature over the past 12 hours that has the doctors puzzled, although they think it might be a blood infection. They have however, ruled out the blood she received yesterday as the infection source, saying that if that blood was contaminated, that she would have developed symptoms much faster than she did. She’s also unable to stay awake and doesn’t feel very good when she is lucid. We’ll visit her again tomorrow to follow up with the doctors and nurses. Thanks to all for your concerns and well wishes.

09:55 PM: I FAXed Mom’s power of attorney papers to ths hospital, and we’re planning to visit there tomorrow to stipulate that they are not to put Mom on a ventalator or other machines to keep her alive, per Mom’s wishes.
