  • Wet-wipe the kitchen floor.

07:00 AM: I’m up.

08:30 AM: 6 degrees outside this morning.  Mostly clear so far though.  But there’s a big storm coming in the next couple days.  So it appears that, with these recurring cold temps and the snow and ice, that global warming has taken a vacation the past couple of years.  :-)

09:15 AM: Scheduled my van trip for later this week to visit Mom at the nursing home.

09:40 AM: Cancelled Mom’s Blair Senior Services van to her neurology appointment this week.  We must use Med Van, that provides more timely arrivals for wheelchair patients.

09:45 AM: Med Van trip has been scheduled for Mom to transport her to her neurology appointment this week.

09:55 AM: Ground oregano and olive oil on popcorn last night. Yummy! But that snack left the kitchen smelling like a pizzeria. I don’t mind that really, except that it tempts me to order a pizza for supper tonight, which I should NOT do. Hmmmmmm. To be gluttonous or not to be.

10:55 AM: Made sure that Mom’s financial planner received my message that I lef her last week to withdraw the 10% anual amount that Mom dones every year.  They did receive the message and this transaction is in process now.

02:00 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

02:35 PM: I think that any contract written in smaller than 10 point type should be unenforceable. Let’s get rid of the ‘fine print’ once and for all, and ensure that people signing contracts really do understand what they’re signing. If a contract is too long to print big, then it’s too long, period.

02:40 PM: Reading through the documents for my new health insurance plan that took effect at the beginning of this month.  Guess I’d best understand what it covers, and perhaps more importantly, what it does not.

03:55 PM: In the first large envelope of papers and booklets from my new health insurance company, I found my medical insurance cards, a form for listing any allergies to medications (I have none so far), and pamphlets discussing various health education programs offered by the company.  I’ll get into a second envelope I received from them over the holidays later this week.

05:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

05:45 PM: I’m awake again.

06:30 PM: Watched today’s episode of   Dr. Phil   on the DVR.

07:50 PM: Watched tonight’s episodes of   NBC’s Nightly News   and   The CBS Evening News   news shows on the DVR.

11:00 PM: Watched tonight’s rerun episode of   Hawaii Five-0   on Mom’s HD TV with   [Emmy]   on the phone.

11:35 PM: [Emmy]   and I watched   KDKA TV’s Local News,   and it appears that, at least for the present, Kristine Sorensen has replaced Patrice King Brown as the female anchor of the 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM: news casts.  [Emmy] hates this however, as this likely means that Sorensen will no longer regularly host the   Pittsburgh Today Live   show in the morning.  But, this is a step up for Sorensen, as now, she’s an anchor in prime time news.

11:40 PM: Bed time.  More tomorrow.  Good night, and do take care.

Today’s Activities

  • Shower. DONE.
  • Cat duty. DONE.
  • Wash all (3) loads of pending laundry. DONE.
  • Vacuum the first floor.  DONE.
  • Wet-wipe the kitchen floor.

Log

10:00 AM: I’m up.  Today I plan on doing the laundry, cleaning up downstairs, and perhaps watching a movie or starting a new book.  Not sure yet which of these (movie or book) I’ll take on. I often dread watching unfamiliar movies because sometimes, it takes most of the movie to realize that I’ve picked  a dud.  The same for books, even more so, because it can take still longer to realize that I’ve wasted much time reading a bad one.  But I’m feeling a bit lucky today, and do have some time to kill.  So why not risk a little?

02:00 PM: Vacuumed the 1st floor.

04:45 PM: Watched the movie   Molly   this afternoon. First, a sad movie, then it lifts up in the middle, then goes sad again at the end. A great example of God giving-eth and then taking-eth away. :-) But that notwithstanding, I’d still highly recommend this movie. If you enjoyed    Rain Man,   you’ll love this.

05:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

06:00 PM: I’m awake again.

06:55 PM: Watched today’s episode of NBC’s   Meet The Press   news show on the DVR.

07:15 PM: Sister Christine called to say that she visited Mom yesterday.  Apparently, her UTI has returned.  Boy, she just can’t catch a break.

07:45 PM: Talking to   [Emmy]   now.  I was thinking that we’d listen to a hockey game tonight.  But it’s around the time of the all-star game, and the Pens aren’t playing again until Tuesday.

10:30 PM: Watched today’s episodes of CBS’s   Face The Nation   and   NBC’s Nightly News   news shows on the DVR.

12:00 AM: Added perhaps 50 more love songs to the   Happy Love Songs   piece.

12:15 AM: Bed time.  Catch you later, and may your own sleep be rejuvenating and restorative.  Good night.

06:00 AM: I’m up.

07:00 AM: Well, I guess it’s time to turn the rest of the Christmas lights off for another year this weekend. So say goodbye to the blueness. I just love the holidays so much that at times, I find it difficult to let go of them. So I end up running the lights for perhaps too long afterwards. But this weekend is it. I’m letting go of 2010 and looking forward to 2011.

We still have our tree up. We left it, hoping that Mom would get home to enjoy it a little. But now that February is almost upon us, I guess we’ll have to take it down too since she probably won’t be home very soon.

10:00 AM: Added a couple more comments to the    Tom’s Views –> Drug Testing For Food Stamps   piece.

11:00 AM: Just received a call saying that the ATM and shopping privileges on my debt card have been revoked. They offered to reinstate them if I supplied my card numbers. RED FLAG. So I hung up, and then verified with my bank that this was definitely a scam attempt. The bank assured me that all my card privileges are still active. So watch out card holders ’cause people are out to scam us.

11:30 AM: 25 years ago at this very time,  Space Shuttle Challenger Exploded.  I so well remember that.  Hard to believe that so much time has passed since then.  But memories of the sadness and shock and denial I felt that day are as clear in my mind today as they were the day after it happened.

12:00 PM: Leaving now to visit Mom at the nursing home.  Back later.

03:50 PM: I’m back home.

07:00 PM: Spent the past three hours watching KDKA TV’s local news show, because a long-time anchor is leaving the station after nearly 33 years.  It’s   Patrice King Brown,   and I remember her when she hosted the   Pittsburgh Today   show back in the 80s.  In the afternoon from 2:00 to 3:00, she’d be on the air, and I kept the workshop television tuned to channel 2 to see her and all her interesting guests.  I adjusted and repaired many a color TV with her image on the screen.  She’s retiring very young (56 years old I think).  But she well deserves it, as she wishes to spend more time with her husband and traveling around the country to visit her children.  Thanks Patrice, for all your years of service to Pittsburgh, and I hope the next chapter of your life treats you as well as your time at KDKA did.  Take care.

07:45 PM: A friend on Facebook was griping about his braided water hoses leaking at their ends way too soon after purchase.  So I responded as follows: Yes, I’ve experienced that same problem on our clothes washer.  Replaced the rubber washers in the hose ends, but that didn’t help.  So, I ended up paying $10 per hose (the most expensive, solid looking braided hoses I could find), and haven’t seen that problem recur in three years now.  So the real trick would seem to be to find a good quality hose if possible.  But note that Home Depot recommends that you replace these hoses every five years (even those strong, braided ones).

09:20 PM: Watched today’s episode of   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.  Now I’m talking with   [Emmy].

06:00 AM: I’m up.  Today, I hope to file more of that big stack of papers in the downstairs office and perhaps finish all of that by the end of this week.

07:00 AM: Finished my early morning Facebook session.  Friend count: 385 (up 4).  Fan count: 96 (up 1).

09:00 AM: Shoveled all walks around the house.  Looks like three inches of snow has fallen during the past couple days.  But paths here are clear once more.

09:30 AM: Today’s repeater song:  Witch Doctor   by David Seville.  Apparently, it has that same stuck-in-the-head effect for some of my Facebook friends as it does me.  It’s simply a great tune even with the bogus advice it gives.

11:30 AM: Filed all but two or three papers in the downstairs office.  I’ll get to them either today or tomorrow.

01:00 PM: Nap time.  Back later.

02:15 PM: I’m back up again.

03:30 PM: Added a comment to the   Tom’s Views –> Drug Testing For Food Stamps    piece that further magnifies my views on the topic of the state cutting welfare recipients off from aid if they test positive for drugs.

05:30 PM: Watched today’s episodes of   Dr. Phil   and   The Young and the Restless   on the DVR.

08:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episodes of   The CBS Evening News   and   NBC’s Nightly News   on the DVR.

10:15 PM; Talked with   [Emmy]   on the phone.  We were both very tired, at least at the start.  But she became quite energetic by the end of our conversation while I became more “dead”.  Still though, we enjoyed a fun talk as per usual.

11:00 PM: Watched a bit of CNN’s   AC 360   news cast and dozed a little besides.  But I’ve got to get to bed, for real.  So good night and sweet dreams.  I’ll write more on the morrow.
