Log
09:15 AM: I’m up.
10:25 AM: Salted the ramp. While the temperature is above freezing (34 degrees at the moment), light rain is still falling that appears to be freezing when it hits the ground. Besides, the ramp and sidewalks outside are quite slippery. So I just need a little traction until the above-freezing warmth melts all that dangerous ice coating.
10:35 AM: Leaving to visit Mom now with sisters Christine and Diane. Back later.
02:30 PM: I’m back home again.
05:10 PM: Sisters Christine, Diane, and I visited Mom today. She seems better but could still decline again rapidly. She’s not stable. She ate a little lunch while we watched, though she gave me her main course. No social worker on site today due to President’s Day. Also, no physical therapy for Mom after Wednesday, as that will be Mom’s last day of skilled nursing care. However, we should be able to arrange something to let Mom exercise with the weights and belts. Thursday begins private pay. Also, we cancelled the table order. Much cheaper yet equally functional set found at K-Mart. though we held off on buying that as well. Again, we’re waiting for Mom to stabilize, and for the threat that she could be hospitalized at any time to subside some, before buying more. We labeled all the rest of her things, and tried to get her attending nurse to add the things we delivered on Saturday to the home’s inventory record. But she was too busy. So I’ll try later this week. All in all, a typical Mom day.
06:15 PM: Watched today’s episode of The Young and the Restless on the DVR.
06:20 PM: Nap time now. Back later.
08:00 PM: I’m awake again.
08:40 PM: Watched today’s Dr. Phil episode: Hands Off My Teen Daughter on the DVR.
09:20 PM: So far, 35 loads done in the new washer. Guess that means that it’s not so NEW anymore. Yet it still works great! Imagine THAT in THIS day and age. Each load thus, cost roughly $28. I’m hoping to do enough laundry to get the per-load cost down below $0.50 before I have to replace this thing. You think I will?
09:25 PM: Hmmm. Counting loads of laundry completed. Ya think I need a life? With Mom gone now, I might have to start washing paper towels to get the load count up. But since we wash all of Mom’s laundry here, there will still be plenty of opportunity to give this machine a formidable workout as long as she stays with us. But if that takes very long, I might have the change the water heater a few more times before reaching the goal. I typically wash for two clean-freak women as well as myself. So I might make this goal way sooner than expected.
09:47 PM: Memories of me being forced to play in the school band from 35 years ago when I really wanted to study electronics, still bug me sometimes. I might have become another Edison if I hadn’t been forced to play a Mozart.
11:00 PM: Watched tonight’s episode of Hawaii Five-O with [Emmy] on the phone while Facebooking during the commercials. Great episode. I like how they’ve modernized yet preserved the style of the original show. The original did not have cell phones, GPS units, memory cards, laser targeting guns, or cell phones. Yet this new series seems to have preserved the suspense and drama of the old show. Both shows are well-written I think. Great way to spend a late Monday evening.
11:05 PM: A bit about our two cats that I shared with a Facebook friend: Yes, the cat pictured in my profile is a tuxedo cat (white bib) named Jasper, and he has a sister who has a bigger bib. Her name is Baby, and her entire under side is white. We’ve had these cats since August of 2000 when they were born. Unfortunately, their mother, Cubby, just after she finished nursing them, was killed by a car. So needless to say, we keep these animals strictly indoors.
11:50 PM: Shoveled the ramp and sidewalk. Looks like four inches of snow have fallen so far.
12:30 AM: Headed for bed. More later. Good night.
