08:45 AM: I’m up.
10:00 AM: Telling a high school friend who doesn’t remember me DJing, about when I used to DJ the dances there: My senior year, your junior year. We used that big old white and brown speaker system from the music room, and an amp from the radio station. All mono when I did it, but my outfit is stereo now. Back then, I think we had 50 watts total audio power, and that seemed to do quite well in that echoey gymnasium. The system I have now has 1400 watts per channel, and I got four channels.
In fact, I have to be careful not to turn it up too high, lest I blow fuses. But for venues that require really loud music, I can run the amps on 220 volts to get around the fuse popping problem.
11:55 AM: Today begins the process of securing Medical Assistance for Mom, to help pay for her long-term nursing care. Already, I’ve called the county assistance office twice this morning to request that a caseworker be assigned, to advise and guide us through the labyrinth of paperwork. But so far, either their phone has been busy, or they do not answer. Grrrrrr. Hmmm. Sounds just like what happens at the nursing home; overworked and understaffed. You think there’s a conspiracy going on? Or, is it just that the state of our health care system is so sad and widespread that one can’t escape its shortcomings, no matte where one goes.
12:00 PM: I’m happy with my three Marpac SleepMates, but haven’t used them since Mom’s been gone. I sleep best in dead quiet, but sleep better with the SleepMates when it’s noisy downstairs. White noise is a good alternative when it masks sudden racket at night, that would otherwise wake me up. Ideally, quiet (not white) is best for me. But when quiet is not possible, white noise is a highly acceptable stand-in, and these units supply it in abundance.
04:00 PM: Posted the Tom’s Views –> Convection Oven Thoughts piece.
04:15 PM: Nap time. Back later.
06:00 PM: I’m awake again.
07:20 PM: Watched today’s episode of The Young and the Restless on the DVR.
07:25 PM: Watching today’s Dr. Phil episode: Secrets Gone Wrong on the DVR. Details here.
11:00 PM: Watched tonight’s rerun episode of Hawaii Five-0 with [Emmy].
12:00 AM: iPodded and Facebooked. Friend count: 450. Fan count: 105.
12:10 AM: Reviewed the daily blog site stats. Keyword hit count has risen to 313 from 281 yesterday. Big jump! The Dr. Phil episode posts seem to affect this a great deal, especially when I post them immediately after the show airs. This is highly encouraging. But these shows I expect, tend to be trendy, and in a few months, people won’t be searching for information about them anymore. So I’m still looking for more perennial topics to write about; ones the people search for again and again. Of course however, these have the drawback that many, many authors publish matching content all the time, making it harder for any one of them to attract enough hits to make a profit. So I expect that there’s a balance to be achieved here between the trendy and the perennial. Perhaps I can post about trendy subjects to get people to my sites initially, and then advertise my more “timeless” material. There are indeed lots of possibilities to explore. Yesterday’s bump in the keyword hit count over the past thirty days is highly motivating.
12:15 AM: Headed for bed. More tomorrow. Good night.
